List of virtual reality headsets
This is a list of notable virtual reality headsets, covering consumer, enterprise, and virtual-reality-capable mixed-reality head-mounted displays from the early commercial devices of the 1990s through the modern standalone and PC-tethered era. The list focuses on headsets that are well documented in reliable sources. It is organized as a sortable table; the "Type" column groups each device as PC-tethered (powered by an external computer or console), standalone (an all-in-one device with onboard computing), or smartphone-based (a viewer that uses a phone as its display and processor). Release years reflect the first widely reported consumer or commercial availability and are cited per row.
A virtual reality headset places one or more displays close to the eyes, using lenses to fill much of the wearer's field of view, and tracks head motion so that the rendered scene updates as the user looks around. Modern headsets fall into three broad categories by computing model: those tethered to a PC or game console, standalone all-in-one units, and the now largely retired smartphone-based viewers. Many recent standalone devices also offer color Passthrough and are marketed as mixed-reality or XR headsets while remaining capable of fully immersive VR.

Notes
The Sega VR was announced for the Sega Genesis in the early 1990s but was never released as a consumer product.[2] The Virtual Boy used a tabletop stand rather than a head strap, but it presented a stereoscopic 3D image through a binocular eyepiece and is commonly grouped with early VR hardware.[3] The 2017 Windows Mixed Reality lineup from Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung shared a common platform and inside-out tracking, with most units launching together on October 17, 2017, and the Samsung HMD Odyssey following in November 2017.[12] Several Meta and Pico devices originally launched under earlier brand names (Oculus and Pico Interactive, respectively) before later rebranding.[25]
