Vampire: The Masquerade - Justice is a single-player stealth action role-playing game for virtual reality headsets, developed and published by the Stockholm studio Fast Travel Games under licence from Paradox Interactive's World of Darkness brand.[1][2] The player is Justice, a vampire of the Banu Haqim clan who travels from New York to Venice to find the killer of their sire and a stolen relic.[3] Fast Travel Games writes the title with a plain hyphen on its own site and store pages, while the licence holder's announcement and Sony's PlayStation Blog set the separator as an en dash.[4][1][3]
The game was announced on 1 June 2023 during Meta's Quest Gaming Showcase and released on 2 November 2023 for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest Pro and PlayStation VR2 at US $29.99.[5][6][7] A PC VR version followed on Steam on 6 February 2024, and a Pico version in spring 2024.[8][9] It is the studio's second World of Darkness title after Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife (2021) and, by the developer's count, its seventh VR game.[7][5] Reviews were mixed to favourable, and the game was a finalist for Immersive Reality Game of the Year at the 27th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards.[10]
Gameplay
Vampire: The Masquerade - Justice is played in first person and is built around stealth. Missions start from a hub area and branch into main and side missions, with optional objectives for finishing a level undetected or without killing; Fast Travel Games describes the encounters as open-ended, with several ways to reach a target.[6][7] Enemies can be approached from vents, climbable pipes, ledges and scaffolding, and objects such as bricks and bottles can be dropped as sound lures.[11][12] Writing after a Gamescom 2023 hands-on, UploadVR's Harry Baker said the game "looks and plays like a VR version of Dishonored".[6]
The vampire powers, called disciplines in the World of Darkness setting, include Cloak of Shadows (temporary invisibility), Cauldron of Blood (boiling a victim from the inside) and Shadow Trap (a placed trap that drags an enemy into "Oblivion"), plus a blink-style dash used to cross gaps and canals and to pounce on enemies.[4][6][11] Every discipline consumes blood (vitae), which raises the character's Hunger; the player restores it by feeding on humans, other vampires or rats, and feeding also restores health.[4][11][12] The other main tool is a crossbow mounted on the character's forearm, which fires crafted bolts, including sleep bolts for non-lethal takedowns and corrosive bolts, and is also used to solve puzzles.[4][6][11]
Progression is XP-based. Completing missions earns base experience, bonus objectives (finishing a level undetected or without harming anyone) earn more, and hidden collectibles that must be eroded with a Corrosive Vitae bolt give small amounts.[13] XP is spent in a hub the developer calls the Inner Sanctum on skill trees for stealth, combat and traversal; for example, Cloak of Shadows can be upgraded to use less blood or to work while enemies are watching.[13][4] A separate persuasion path lets the player spend XP on dialogue options to win over allies, intimidate targets for information, or open shortcuts through a level.[13]
Movement uses continuous stick-based locomotion. UploadVR and MIXED both state that no teleport locomotion option is offered; Road to VR's comfort table marks teleport movement as available, and its review describes teleporting as the game's only way of getting from ledge to ledge, which appears to refer to the blink dash.[11][14][12] Comfort settings include snap, quick and smooth turning, adjustable movement speed, movement and rotation vignettes, seated or standing play, and both physical and artificial crouching.[11][12] The PlayStation VR2 version requires the PS VR2 Sense controllers and uses headset vibration, controller vibration and adaptive trigger effects.[15][3] The Steam and Quest versions added support for the bHaptics haptic vest in February 2024.[8]
Fast Travel Games gave the campaign length as 10 to 15 hours depending on play style before launch and as roughly eight to 10 hours (more for completionists) at launch.[13][7] Road to VR's reviewer finished the game in about eight hours; UploadVR's took 10 hours for the main story and 15 hours with all collectibles and side missions.[12][11]
Story
The game is an original story set in the World of Darkness, the tabletop setting that Vampire: The Masquerade belongs to, and does not require knowledge of earlier games in the licence.[3] Justice is a vampire of clan Banu Haqim, described in the announcement as a clan devoted to upholding moral codes and enforcing laws.[1] After Justice's sire is murdered and a relic is stolen, Justice leaves New York for Venice, a city that the announcement describes as home to the death-worshipping Hecata vampires, to investigate and uncover a conspiracy.[3][7][1] Levels take in alleyways, canals, catacombs and palazzos.[4][11]
The player can choose a male or female Justice; UploadVR credits Zack Hoffman and Diana Gardner with the two performances, and names Jeff Ball, previously composer on Moss, as the composer.[11]
Development
Fast Travel Games is a Stockholm-based studio that works only on VR titles; its earlier games include Apex Construct, The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets and Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife, its first World of Darkness game, released on 22 April 2021.[1][16] Erik Odeldahl, the studio's creative director and co-founder, wrote its announcement and pre-launch posts.[1][3] In the launch announcement he said the studio had already made six VR games, making Vampire its seventh, and described it as "a deep VR game with a lot to explore" that was designed stealth-first.[7] The licence holder, Paradox Interactive, was involved through its World of Darkness division; its vice president Sean Greaney called Fast Travel Games "a phenomenal partner" in the announcement.[1]
The game was revealed on 1 June 2023 at the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase with a late-2023 window for Quest 2, Quest 3 and PlayStation VR2.[5][1] The 2 November 2023 release date and the US $29.99 price were confirmed at Gamescom in August 2023, where UploadVR noted that crossbow aiming and body-grabbing felt finicky on Quest 2 hardware.[6] Pre-orders on PlayStation Store carried a 10 percent discount and an exclusive golden arm crossbow.[13]
Post-launch support included a Quest patch in November 2023 that moved a hard-to-find dungeon key, added a "Return to Pietro's Hideout" option to the pause menu, streamlined the crossbow tutorial and fixed climbing, save and performance problems, followed by a PlayStation VR2 patch on 7 December 2023 with trophy fixes and lighting, reflection and crash fixes.[17][18] In December 2023 the studio released free trials on Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest Pro and PlayStation VR2 that allow one hour of unrestricted play of the opening section, with saves carrying over to the full game; the PS VR2 trial required a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.[19]

In January 2024 Fast Travel Games told Game Developer that the title had become its fastest-selling internally developed project since its November debut, and that the studio's whole catalogue had passed 100,000 sales across November and December 2023; it did not give a per-title figure.[23] A year later, in January 2025, the studio made 30 employees (about 60 percent of its staff) redundant after its six 2024 releases sold below expectations and consolidated to a single internal development team.[24]

| Metacritic (PC) | 66 / 100 | 6 critic reviews[25] |

| Steam user reviews | Mixed | 64 percent positive of 235 reviews, September 2026[2] |
Reviews praised the atmosphere and split on the stealth design. Road to VR's Scott Hayden, scoring it 5.5, praised "finely-crafted visuals" and called combat a high point, but found the missions linear despite their large levels, object interaction unreliable, enemy AI simple ("all enemies are basically the same" and "never look up"), and the waypoints overly hand-holding.[12] UploadVR's Tony Mowbray gave four stars, describing a polished stealth RPG with a strong soundtrack and voice cast and flexible mission routes, while criticising stiff NPC animation with out-of-sync dialogue, little enemy variety beyond humans and Kindred, inconsistent AI reactions and awkward Shadow Trap placement.[11] MIXED's Benjamin Danneberg called it one of the best VR games of 2023 for its atmosphere and player agency, but noted a rushed story, poor NPC textures and animation, AI inconsistencies, bugs and occasional crashes.[14] On Metacritic the game holds 68 for PlayStation 5 and 66 for PC, and OpenCritic records a 72 average with 17 percent of six critics recommending it.[25][26] Metacritic lists Paradox Interactive as publisher, whereas the Steam, PlayStation and Pico store pages credit Fast Travel Games as both developer and publisher.[25][2][15][9]
