High On Life VR is an upcoming virtual reality adaptation of High On Life, the 2022 comedic first-person shooter by Squanch Games. The conversion is being made by Flat2VR Studios in partnership with Squanch Games, and is planned for release in 2027 on Meta Quest, PlayStation VR2 and PC VR through SteamVR.[1][2] It was revealed with a trailer at the VR Games Showcase on 13 August 2026.[2][3]
The game is a separate release from the original flatscreen version.[4] As of 29 September 2026 it has no release date: Steam lists it as "To be announced" and the PlayStation Store says its release date is to be determined.[5][6]
Gameplay
Like the original game, High On Life VR casts the player as an intergalactic bounty hunter fighting an alien cartel that has invaded Earth to use humans as drugs. The player partners with talking guns and sets out to take down the cartel leader Garmantuous and his gang.[3][4] The talking guns are aliens called Gatlians; over the course of the game the player teams up with five talking guns and one knife.[7] The Steam listing describes a single-player, VR-only first-person action adventure with alien worlds to explore, upgradable weapons and hidden collectibles.[5]
The developers said the VR version required reworking several systems from the flatscreen game, including shop interactions, character scenes around the city, and new physical reload mechanics for the game's weapons.[2] According to Road to VR, the announcement video showed behind-the-scenes work on translating the living guns, traversal and non-player character interactions into VR-native interactions.[4] GameSpot reported that players will be able to interact with their talking weapons directly, including stroking and feeding them.[8] In Meta's announcement interview, O'Neal said that everything from the Warp Remote to the pause screen is diegetic, meaning menus and interface elements exist inside the game world.[7]
Development
Flat2VR Studios is a team led by VR modders that adapts flatscreen games to VR. Its parent company, Impact Reality, announced in March 2024 that it was establishing the studio.[9] The same studio is also adapting the System Shock remake as System Shock VR, which was announced at the same showcase.[8][3]
Emily O'Neal is the game director, and Alastair Burns is a producer at Flat2VR.[7] In the announcement, O'Neal said, "We really want you to feel like you're holding living creatures in your hands."[1][10] In the reveal trailer, as quoted by GameSpot, she said that the new manual interactions have to "make sense in gameplay" while "maintaining the fast, fluid, and powerful feeling of combat".[8] Burns told Meta that "in VR, you are the controller."[7]
Road to VR reported that, according to the studio, the game can already run natively on Quest.[4] In Meta's announcement, Burns said the team was engineering the game to run on Meta Quest 3 at a stable 72 frames per second.[7]
Release
The game was announced on 13 August 2026 and can be wishlisted on all three platforms.[2][1] Meta's announcement invited players to preorder it on the Meta Horizon Store, where the listing shows it as coming soon.[7][11] No price had been announced as of 29 September 2026.

The VR Games Showcase roundup names Impact Inked, Impact Reality's publishing label, as publisher, as does the Meta Horizon Store listing, while the PlayStation Store lists the publisher as Impact Reality, Inc.[5][3][11][6][9] The PlayStation version requires PlayStation VR2, and its store listing gives the VR play styles as sitting and standing.[6]
PC requirements
The Steam page lists support for OpenXR, Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, Valve Index, Pimax, Index Knuckles controllers and Pico headsets, and states that Vive controllers are not supported.[5]
