Even Realities G2 vs Meta Ray-Ban Display

vrarwiki.com · VR & AR Wiki

Even Realities G2 vs Meta Ray-Ban Display compares the Even Realities G2, a pair of camera-free display smart glasses from Even Realities, with the Meta Ray-Ban Display, a pair of display AI glasses with a camera and speakers from Meta Platforms. The G2 projects a green monochrome image into both lenses, while the Meta Ray-Ban Display has a full-color 600 x 600 pixel display in the right lens only.[1][2] As of October 2026, the G2 costs US$599 on Even Realities' United States store, with the optional Even R1 control ring sold separately for US$249, while the Meta Ray-Ban Display costs US$799 in the United States with the Meta Neural Band wristband included.[3][4][5] Even Realities states a weight of 36 g for the G2; Ray-Ban's product page lists 68 g for the standard Meta Ray-Ban Display frame and 70 g for the large one.[6][7] Even Realities rates the G2 at two days of regular use per charge, and Meta rates its glasses at up to six hours of mixed use.[1][8] The G2 is controlled with touchpads on the temples, voice or the ring, and the Meta glasses mainly with the Neural Band, an electromyography (EMG) wristband that reads muscle signals at the wrist.[9][8]

Display and see-through design

The two products put the display in different places. The G2 uses micro-LED projectors and layered waveguides to show a green image in both lenses; Even Realities lists the optics as binocular waveguides with 98% passthrough.[10][1] The Meta Ray-Ban Display shows a full-color image in the right lens only.[2] iFixit's teardown found a liquid crystal on silicon device with a 600 x 600 pixel grid feeding a geometric, or reflective, waveguide, and described the right lens as "thick with multiple layers of high-precision coated glass".[13]

On paper the G2 has the wider field of view (27.5 degrees against 20 degrees) and the Meta glasses the higher brightness (up to 5,000 nits against 1,200 nits) and refresh rate (90 Hz against 60 Hz).[1][2] Road to VR's specification list gives a density of 42 pixels per degree and less than 2% light leakage for the Meta display.[2] Even Realities publishes no pixel-density figure. Its specification page gives a resolution of 640 x 350, while its developer documentation describes the area that apps can draw on as 576 x 288 pixels per eye in 16 levels of monochrome green.[1][9]

Reviewers who tried both described the trade-off in different terms. Engadget's Sam Rutherford wrote that the G2's green display was "not quite as impressive as the single RGB display" of the Meta glasses, but that the G2's less chunky design and longer battery life made it "a worthy trade-off".[15] Gizmodo's James Pero found the G2's display "much sharper" than the Meta Ray-Ban Display's, while noting the brightness gap of 1,200 nits against 5,000 nits.[16]

Prescription support differs widely. Even Realities makes custom lenses from -12.00 to +12.00 diopters, with single-vision lenses from US$159 on its US store, while Meta's range at launch was -4.00 to +4.00.[6][3][2] The Meta glasses ship with Transitions lenses for indoor and outdoor use.[8]

Performance and hardware

Meta's glasses use the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor and have 32 GB of flash storage, which Ray-Ban's page says holds more than 100 30-second videos and more than 500 photos.[2][7] Even Realities does not list a processor or storage for the G2. Its developer documentation says that apps run on the paired phone, which connects to the glasses over Bluetooth, and that "the glasses are the screen".[9]

The largest hardware difference is the camera. The Meta Ray-Ban Display has a 12 MP ultra-wide camera with 3x zoom, two open-ear speakers and a five-microphone array plus a contact microphone.[7] Even Realities markets the G2 as "camera-free", and the glasses have no speakers; they carry four microphones.[6][10][1] The G2 frame is made of magnesium alloy and the temples of titanium alloy.[1]

Tracking and input

Every Meta Ray-Ban Display is sold with the Meta Neural Band, a wristband made with Vectran in three sizes that reads muscle signals by EMG and turns small hand movements into commands.[8] The glasses also accept touch and "Hey Meta" voice commands.[7] In January 2026 Meta began rolling out neural handwriting to Early Access users, who could send WhatsApp and Messenger messages by writing with a finger on any surface.[17]

The G2 is operated with press, double press, swipe and long-press gestures on touchpads in the temple tips, or with the same gestures on the optional Even R1 ring.[9] The wake phrase for its assistant is "Hey, Even".[6] The R1 costs US$249 and, according to its store page, currently supports interaction only with the G2.[4]

Reviewers compared the two input methods directly. Gizmodo wrote that the R1 "may not be as nuanced as the gestures in the Meta Ray-Ban Display" but was "a heck of a lot less invasive".[16] T3's Rik Henderson found that the ring "allows for more discrete gesture control" than the wristband, since it needs only the thumb against the forefinger.[11] Tom's Guide's Darragh Murphy wrote that the ring's touch controls complete the G2 "far more subtly than the Neural Band on the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses".[18]

Software and content

Both products depend on a paired phone: the G2 uses the Even Realities app, and the Meta glasses use Meta's companion app.[6][7] Even Realities' conversation features (Conversate, AI Cues and Prep Notes) transcribe a conversation, show context for unfamiliar names or references and keep prepared notes in view.[6]

Function Even Realities G2 Meta Ray-Ban Display
Assistant Even AI, started with "Hey, Even"[6] Meta AI with visual answers and step-by-step guides[8]
Messages Notifications on the display[6]; Gizmodo's November 2025 review reported that replies were not possible[16] View and reply to WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and phone messages; video calls through WhatsApp and Messenger[7][8]
Navigation Turn-by-turn directions in the peripheral view[6] Pedestrian navigation with a map (beta); 32 cities as of January 2026[8][17]
Translation and captions Real-time translation, 35 languages[6] Live captions and translation[8]
Teleprompter Voice-controlled teleprompter[6] Phased rollout from January 2026, navigated with the Neural Band[17]
Third-party apps Even Hub plugins: web apps in HTML, CSS and JavaScript or TypeScript, run on the phone[9] Web apps in HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no native app or separate SDK, announced at Connect 2026[19]
Camera functions None[6] Camera preview and zoom[8]

Software for both products changed after launch. At Meta Connect 2026 on 23 September 2026, Meta announced cycling and public transit directions for the US and Canada, mirrored phone notifications, an on-glasses Explore app, and Hologram video calls in Early Access on WhatsApp for US users "later this fall".[20] Meta's developer recap of Connect said that the developer updates it described, including web apps that run on the Meta Ray-Ban Display without a native app, would begin rolling out on 30 September 2026.[19] For the G2, Even Realities released app version 2.3.2 on 2 October 2026, adding customizable long-press shortcuts for the glasses and ring and a QuickNote feature, and renaming QuickList to Reminders; MIXED reported that the update required new firmware on both the G2 and the R1.[21] Even Realities states that its AI features need no subscription.[22]

Comfort, weight and battery

Even Realities lists the G2 at 36 g, and Ray-Ban lists the Meta glasses at 68 g for the standard size and 70 g for the large size.[6][7] Launch coverage commonly gave 69 g for the Meta glasses, and Tom's Guide reported 42 g for the Neural Band.[23][14] T3 wrote that the Ray-Bans "are chunky and fun, but Even's solution is more comfortable for sure".[11]

Even Realities rates the G2 at two days of regular use, with a 2,000 mAh case that holds seven full charges.[1] Meta's newsroom rates its glasses at up to six hours of mixed use and up to 30 hours in total with the collapsible charging case, and the Neural Band at up to 18 hours.[8] Ray-Ban's product page gives up to six hours on a single charge and up to 24 hours with a fully charged case.[7] The G2's current specification lists IP65 dust and water resistance, although launch coverage in November 2025 reported IP67. GSMArena reported an IPX4 rating for the Meta glasses, and Meta rates the Neural Band at IPX7.[1][10][14][8]

Price and availability

Market Even Realities G2 Meta Ray-Ban Display
United States US$599 (from 12 November 2025)[10][3] US$799; in-store from 30 September 2025, online ordering from 23 September 2026[8][20]
United Kingdom £599 (launch price)[11] £749; online and retail sales from 23 September 2026[12][20]
Eurozone €699 (launch price)[11] €899 in France, Germany and Italy; pre-orders from 23 September 2026, online ordering and retail sales announced for 13 October 2026[12][20]

Even Realities sells the G2 through its own website.[10] TechCrunch reported in July 2026 that its main markets were the United States, Japan, South Korea, the Middle East and Europe, and that it did not yet sell in China.[24] In August 2026 the company named iNNOHOME its exclusive distributor in Taiwan, with the G2 to be introduced there from the third quarter of 2026.[22] TechCrunch also reported that prescription lenses or the ring add US$200 to US$300 to the US$599 frame price, bringing the average order to roughly US$1,000.[24]

The Meta Ray-Ban Display was sold only in the United States until September 2026. Meta paused a planned early 2026 launch in the UK, France, Italy and Canada in January 2026, citing demand and limited inventory.[17] At Connect 2026 it opened online ordering in the US, Canada (CA$1,149) and the UK and took pre-orders in France, Germany and Italy, with online ordering and retail sales there announced for 13 October 2026 and prescription lenses from that date at EssilorLuxottica stores in France and Italy, and later in the year in Germany.[20][12] As of October 2026 Meta's support page lists Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States as supported countries.[25] MIXED reported in September 2026 that Meta described its inventory as "very limited".[5]

Reviews comparing the two

  • In its November 2025 review of the G2, Gizmodo found the G2's display sharper than the Meta Ray-Ban Display's but its microphones "a little harder of hearing", and called the lack of message replies on the G2 "a major disadvantage compared to the Meta Ray-Ban Display".[16]
  • T3's first impressions said the G2 lacked "the initial wow factor of the Meta Ray-Ban Display, with its full-colour display, camera and built-in speakers", but that the writer could see himself preferring the G2 for daily wear.[11]
  • Tom's Guide noted that the G2 uses waveguide displays "on both lenses (not in just one lens like the Meta Ray-Ban Display)", likened it to the Meta glasses as a product designed to be worn daily, and wrote that next to the US$799 Meta pair the G2 was not as expensive a venture.[18]
  • Engadget's first look called the Meta glasses one of the "bigger, chunkier and more intrusive" alternatives to the G2.[15]
  • In September 2026, How-To Geek's Jon Fingas wrote that the G2 is "not as useful as the Meta Ray-Ban Display, but they're also much less expensive at $599 versus $799."[26]
