DPVR P1 Pro Light is a virtual reality head-mounted display released in 2021. It is a standalone headset from the Shanghai-based company DPVR, announced in August 2021 together with the DPVR P1 Ultra 4K as one of two headsets aimed at business customers.[2][1] Auganix described it as a light version of the DPVR P1 Pro, using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, and as a lower-cost option for entry-level customers.[2]
DPVR announced a basic price of US$399 for the P1 Pro Light and called it "a cost effective wireless VR headset solution, ideal for large volume applications".[1] It has rotation-only 3DoF tracking and comes with a single controller.[3]
Announcement and release
DPVR announced the P1 Ultra 4K and the P1 Pro Light as new wireless headsets for enterprise and commercial use. Its newsroom post about the launch is dated 26 August 2021, and Auganix reported the announcement on the same day.[1][2] DPVR said the two models doubled the performance of its previous models, and it priced the basic P1 Ultra 4K at US$599 and the P1 Pro Light at US$399.[1] According to Auganix, the basic versions of both headsets were due to become available in September 2021.[2]
In the Auganix report, DPVR founder and CEO Chaoyang Chen said the company wanted to serve customers "in fields such as education and medical care" by combining customized software and hardware.[2] The same DPVR announcement cited a Counterpoint survey for the first quarter of 2021 that, according to DPVR, placed its headset shipments in the top three worldwide.[1]
Most of the launch material concerned the P1 Ultra 4K, including its optional hand tracking, eye tracking, heart rate, iris recognition and brain-computer interface modules. DPVR described that modular design for the P1 Ultra 4K, not for the P1 Pro Light.[1][2]
A month earlier, on 29 July 2021, the Chinese trade publication VR陀螺 (VR Gyro) carried a DPVR press release about a "P1 Pro 行业入门版" (P1 Pro industry entry edition). That model also used an enhanced Snapdragon 821, with a 2.5K Fast LCD, a 100-degree field of view, a refresh rate of 70 Hz and 3 GB of RAM with 32 GB of storage expandable to 128 GB. DPVR positioned it as an entry-level 3DoF headset for business customers to fill the gap left by the discontinued Oculus Go, and said more than 80 business customers in education, training and medicine had begun integrating content for it.[4][5] DPVR's English-language launch material for the P1 Pro Light does not say whether the two names refer to the same headset.
As of September 2026, DPVR's P1 range page does not mention the P1 Pro Light. The site's product menu lists the P2, P1 Max, P1 Pro 4K, P1 Pro CAM, P1 Pro EDU and P1 Pro as its enterprise standalone 3DoF headsets.[6]
Design and hardware
The P1 Pro Light uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor.[1] The standard DPVR P1 Pro, of which Auganix called it a light version, uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 and has a 2560 x 1440 resolution with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, according to DPVR's store.[2][7]
In its report on the launch, the Russian XR news site Holographica listed a resolution of 2560 x 1440, 3 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of storage for the P1 Pro Light. It also listed a variant with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, a memory card slot, a 4000 mAh battery that it said gives five hours of continuous use, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.[3] Holographica compared the headset with the discontinued Oculus Go, which also used a Snapdragon 821: both have the same resolution, RAM and storage, rotation-only tracking and a single included controller with the same functions.[3] The publication noted that three-axis tracking lets the user turn but not walk, stand up or sit down, and that the battery is large enough for watching long immersive films.[3]
DPVR gave a weight of 450 grams for the P1 series in its announcement and said both new models could run for up to 4 hours between charges.[1] The same announcement said DPVR had made the new headsets more comfortable with an improved triangle head strap and a more comfortable facial mask, combined with a built-in smart fan.[1]
