DPVR P1 Pro 4K is a virtual reality head-mounted display released in 2019. It is a standalone headset made by DPVR, a Shanghai-based company that designs and manufactures virtual reality devices.[1] The headset runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 processor, has a single LCD panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2160, and tracks head rotation only (3DoF). It comes with a Bluetooth controller that is also tracked in three degrees of freedom.[2][3]

DPVR markets the P1 Pro 4K for high-resolution films and casual games at home, and for group use in education, medical, corporate and other enterprise settings.[2] It is the 4K model of the P1 series. It uses the same XR1 chip as the DPVR P1 Pro, which has a 2560 x 1440 display, and sits below the DPVR P1 Ultra 4K, which uses a Snapdragon 845 processor.[4]

Reviewed 27 September 2026. Specifications, prices, P1 range table, company timeline and manual details checked against DPVR's spec sheet, US store, range and about pages, the P-Series user manual, Auganix (2021) and the ZOL review (2019). About review dates.

History

DPVR's company timeline says it launched the original P1, described as a "panoramic sound 3D giant screen theater", in August 2018, and the P1 Pro with a Qualcomm XR1 processor in April 2019.[5] The company says the P1 design won an iF design award in 2019.[5][2] The Chinese technology site ZOL (Zhongguancun Online) reviewed the P1 Pro 4K in December 2019 and described it as using this award-winning design. At the time of that review, the headset was sold in China through JD.com for 2,499 yuan.[6]

In August 2021, DPVR announced the P1 Ultra 4K and the P1 Pro Light as enterprise-focused standalone headsets. Auganix reported that the P1 Ultra 4K is an upgraded version of the P1 Pro 4K and that, according to DPVR, its Snapdragon 845 processor gives it twice the overall performance of the P1 Pro 4K.[1]

As of September 2026, DPVR still lists the P1 Pro 4K among its enterprise standalone 3DoF headsets. Its US online store gives a price of US$449, excluding tax, freight and VAT.[2][4]

Design and hardware

Display and optics

The headset has one 5.5-inch fast LCD with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 and a pixel density of 807 PPI, split between the two eyes. DPVR lists a 72 Hz refresh rate, a 100-degree field of view and 22 pixels per degree.[3] The lenses are Fresnel lenses. DPVR says the P1 range's Fresnel optics reduce stray light and halo effects.[2][4] Both DPVR and ZOL state that the display has TÜV Rheinland low blue light certification.[3][6]

DPVR's specification sheet gives an automatic interpupillary distance range of 53-73 mm.[3] ZOL's 2019 review gave the adaptive range as 54-74 mm and noted an optical distance sensor in the middle of the face opening.[6] The user manual labels this area "Optical sensing/Distance sensing".[7]

Processor and memory

The P1 Pro 4K uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR1. DPVR lists its CPU as an eight-core Kryo 300 running at 1.7/2.5 GHz and its GPU as an Adreno 615 at 780 MHz.[3] The headset has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage.[2] A TF (microSD) card slot sits under a dust cover on the bottom of the headset.[7] ZOL reported that it accepts cards of up to 256 GB.[6]

Controls and input

The headset shows a cursor that follows head movement. The user selects items by turning the head and tapping the touchpad on the right side of the headset. Sliding on the touchpad scrolls or turns pages. A return button goes back one screen, or to the home screen when held for two seconds, and there are volume buttons on the headset.[7]

The included controller, model BC301, connects over Bluetooth, weighs 45 g and runs on two AAA batteries. It has a touchpad, a trigger, a home button and a return button. Holding the home button for two seconds re-centers the controller, and holding it for five seconds turns the controller on or off.[7] The box contains the headset, the controller, a charger, a USB cable, a lens cleaning cloth and an instruction and warranty card.[7]

Audio, battery and connectivity

The P1 Pro 4K has built-in stereo speakers, a microphone and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.[3] ZOL noted sound openings on both sides of the face cushion, close to the wearer's temples, so that stereo sound can be heard without headphones.[6] The manual says that volume and play/pause controls on earphone cables are not supported through the headphone jack.[7]

The battery has a capacity of 4000 mAh. DPVR rates it at five hours of use.[3][4] ZOL reported five hours of film playback on a full charge and 30 days of standby.[6] The headset charges through a Micro-USB port, which also handles data transfer to a computer and supports OTG. According to the manual, the headset does not charge while it is being worn.[7] Wireless connectivity is dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n/ac, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and Bluetooth 4.2. The headset has a gyroscope, an accelerometer and a proximity sensor, and no cameras.[3]

Build and fit

DPVR gives the weight as 340 g without the face cushion and the dimensions as 181 x 113 x 94 mm.[3] ZOL measured the complete headset at 350 g.[6] The front panel is anodized aluminum alloy. The removable face cushion is made of foam covered with Lycra fabric.[3] The elastic head strap runs through rings on both sides and on the top of the headset, and it is adjusted at those three points.[7][6] ZOL described it as a T-shaped strap fastened with hook-and-loop closures.[6]

Software and features

DPVR lists the operating system as DPUI 4.0.[3] ZOL reported that the software is based on Android 8.1 and starts with a short tutorial for new users.[6] DPVR names Viveport as the headset's game platform and lists screen casting among its features.[3] ZOL reported that units sold in China came with two months of Viveport Infinity subscription, and that the Chinese software included the Tmall Genie voice assistant and a game hall for playing mobile games on a large virtual screen.[6]

Video playback is the headset's main consumer use. In ZOL's review, the cinema app simulated an 800-inch screen with a choice of seating rows (7, 10 or 13), alternative settings such as a bedroom or a seaside view, a screen-lock mode for watching while lying down, and shared rooms for watching with friends. The player handled local files from the memory card in 2D, 3D, 360-degree and fisheye formats, and loaded external subtitle files placed in the same folder as the video.[6]

DPVR says the P1 Pro 4K can be used with more than 7,000 SteamVR games when paired with 6DoF kits.[2] On its P1 range page, the company lists 3DoF and NOLO controller options for the series.[4]

Enterprise and education use

DPVR offers hardware and software customization for business buyers. Front panels can be ordered in different colors with a laser-engraved logo. On the software side, DPVR offers a custom launcher based on its DPLauncher, a custom boot logo and boot screen, apps that start automatically at boot, preinstalled apps, and apps set as system services.[3]

For group use, DPVR's StarLink system mirrors a presenter's PC VR content over a wireless local network to up to 50 standalone headsets. A separate centralized playback control system lets teachers use the headsets in classroom lessons.[3] DPVR says the P1 range can be set up so that a central computer or tablet plays content on several headsets at once and shows the status of each headset in real time.[4] DPVR's US store lists the P1 Pro 4K in its Education and Medical categories.[2] The manual says the headset should be used and stored between 0 and 30 degrees Celsius and is not recommended for children under 13.[7]

Reception

In its December 2019 review, ZOL found the headset light and comfortable over long sessions. The reviewer noted that the T-shaped strap kept the headset from pressing on the nose or shifting position. The reviewer found the 3DoF controller low in latency and accurate, and concluded that the P1 Pro 4K was a considerable step forward from DPVR's earlier products in network features, content and display quality.[6]
