Vivo Vision is a mixed reality head-mounted display developed by the Chinese smartphone maker Vivo. The company first showed the headset at the Boao Forum for Asia in March 2025 and unveiled a version called the vivo Vision Discovery Edition with a full specification sheet on 21 August 2025, at an event in Dongguan marking its 30th anniversary.[1][4] It runs OriginOS Vision, vivo's own Android-based system, on a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, with dual Micro-OLED displays of 3840 x 3552 pixels per eye, eye tracking, hand tracking and color passthrough.[5]
The headset weighs 398 g, which vivo and the press have compared with the roughly 600 g of the Apple Vision Pro, a device whose design and gaze-and-pinch interaction model Vivo Vision closely follows.[5] As of September 2026 the Discovery Edition has not been sold to consumers. Vivo said before the unveiling that it would not ship as a product in 2025, and it has since been offered only as a bookable demonstration in vivo stores in China and, from late 2025, in Malaysia. No retail price, consumer version or release date has been announced.[6][7][2]
Announcement and availability
Pre-announcement and Boao Forum
In December 2024, reports stated that vivo would unveil a mixed reality headset in 2025 intended to compete with Apple's Vision Pro.[8] The headset was first displayed at the Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan on 25 March 2025, where vivo also announced a robotics laboratory and said the real-time spatial computing work behind Vivo Vision would feed into future consumer robots. At that stage vivo gave no specifications, operating system, price or availability, and said only that the device was expected to be unveiled formally in mid-2025.[4][9] UploadVR noted at the time that no press or influencers had been given a working demonstration.[10]
At the vivo X200 Ultra launch on 21 April 2025, the company said the headset would be released in the second half of the year.[11] On 13 August 2025, Hong Yi, general manager of vivo's smart device products, confirmed a 21 August launch event on Weibo and stated that the device would be made available as an in-store experience rather than as a mass-market product.[12] UploadVR reported the same day that vivo had confirmed the headset "will not be shipping as a product this year" and that the version being shown was the "Vivo Vision Mixed Reality Headset Discovery Edition".[6]
Discovery Edition unveiling
Vivo presented the Discovery Edition on 21 August 2025 at the "vivo Vision Launch Event & Imaging Grand Ceremony" in Dongguan, Guangdong, an event also used to announce a new imaging strategy with Zeiss. Vivo said the headset had been in development for about four years.[1][13] The Chinese name is "vivo Vision 探索版", which English-language outlets have translated as both "Discovery Edition" and "Explorer Edition"; vivo's own English press release uses Discovery Edition.[1][14]
Chinese reports of the launch stated that the Discovery Edition would not, for the time being, be mass-produced or sold at retail, and that no price had been set. Vivo also announced a "user advisor" program recruiting 30 enthusiasts to give feedback on the product.[15] According to vivo's Chinese newsroom, bookable demonstrations opened on 22 August 2025 at 13 authorized vivo experience stores in ten cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Nanjing, Chengdu, Kunming and Jinan.[13] UploadVR and GSMArena reported the count as 12 stores.[5][14]
Pricing
Vivo has not announced a price. UploadVR reported that vivo executives told Chinese media the price "could come down to around ¥10,000" (about US$1,400) when the headset eventually launches, against the ¥30,000 Apple charges for Vision Pro in China.[5] Road to VR described the ¥10,000 figure as hinted rather than confirmed.[16]
Malaysia and later showings
On 16 October 2025, vivo Malaysia announced that the headset was "coming soon" to Malaysia.[17] The Malaysian program took the same form as in China: free, registration-only guided sessions at vivo concept stores in Mid Valley Megamall and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and at Queensbay Mall in Penang, running until 28 February 2026, with the headset "not yet available for sale locally" and no Malaysian price announced.[7] Vivo Malaysia maintains an English-language product page for the headset that lists specifications but no price or purchase option.[3]
Vivo showed the headset again at MWC Shanghai in June 2026, where Chinese coverage described it as the first spatial computing product from a mainstream domestic phone maker.[18] At the Boao Forum in March 2026, vivo president and chief operating officer Hu Baishan described headsets as one of three product categories, alongside smartphones and robotics, in which the company plans to apply its imaging technology, without giving a launch plan for the headset.[19] As of September 2026, vivo's Chinese product page for the Discovery Edition shows the headset as out of stock and offers a demonstration booking rather than a purchase option.[2]

Design and hardware
Form factor
The Discovery Edition has a one-piece aluminum alloy frame with a mirror-finish front visor that houses the cameras and sensors.[3][14] Vivo states a height of 83 mm and a thickness of 40 mm, which it describes as 26 percent smaller than the industry average.[1] The stated weight of 398 g covers the headset with its S1 light seal, S1 foam padding and double-loop band; the battery is a separate tethered pack that must be connected for the headset to operate.[3][5] Vivo supplies four sizes of light seal and eight foam padding options, and GSMArena reported two strap designs, one tuned for comfort and one for stability.[1][14]
Vivo and reviewers have compared the weight with Apple Vision Pro, which UploadVR put at about 600 g, making Vivo Vision roughly 40 percent lighter, and with Meta Quest 3, against which it is about 23 percent lighter.[5] The outward design, including the grey fabric facial interface, rear strap, external battery connector and a rotating control on top, closely follows Apple's headset; the metallic side arms are the main visible difference.[10][4]
Display and optics
Each eye has a Micro-OLED panel of 3840 x 3552 pixels, which vivo markets as "binocular 8K". Vivo lists 27.28 million pixels in total, 4032 pixels per inch and 38 pixels per degree.[3][2] The displays cover 94 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut with a color accuracy of Delta E below 2, and vivo says the two panels are calibrated to within 2 nits of brightness of each other.[1] Vivo does not publish a refresh rate, peak brightness or field of view figure on its product pages. In its August 2025 hands-on comparison, Notebookcheck reported a 90 Hz refresh rate, a maximum brightness of 100 nits and an interpupillary distance range of 57-71 mm.[20] The interpupillary distance adjusts automatically by motor when the headset is put on and the main button pressed, as on Vision Pro.[21]
Vision correction uses magnetic lens inserts. Vivo's Malaysian page lists support for myopia from -1.00 D to -10.00 D, and Chinese coverage describes magnetic optical lenses covering 100 to 1,000 degrees of myopia.[3][22]
Processor and battery
The headset uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform from Qualcomm. Vivo's press release cites Qualcomm's figures of up to 2.5 times the GPU performance and 8 times the AI performance of the previous generation; the Chinese product page separately claims a 15 percent GPU and 20 percent CPU frequency increase.[1][2] Vivo has not published memory or storage capacities.[2]
Power comes from an external battery pack connected by a cable with a circular connector. Vivo describes the pack as using its BlueVolt battery technology with a silicon anode and semi-solid electrolyte, but does not state its capacity or a battery life figure.[3][2] Two hands-on reports, from The Ghost Howls in Beijing and Lowyat.NET in Malaysia, each cited about 2.5 hours of use per charge as the figure given at the demonstration.[21][23]
Tracking, sensors and passthrough
Tracking is inside-out, using multiple cameras on the front panel for spatial positioning.[18] Vivo specifies eye tracking with 1.5 degree precision and finger tracking with 26 degrees of freedom across a 175 degree vertical range, so that pinch gestures can be recognized with the hands resting low, out of the wearer's direct view.[1] The full-color video passthrough has a stated latency of 13 ms.[3] Vivo does not give a camera count on its product pages, and reports disagree: Notebookcheck counted eleven cameras (seven on the front, two on the underside and two internal), while a Tencent News creator report from the launch gave six.[24][20]
Controls
The primary input is gaze-and-pinch: the wearer looks at an item and pinches thumb and index finger to select it, with a pinch-and-pull motion for scrolling. A rotating control on top, which The Ghost Howls' hands-on labels the Reality Crown, sets how much of the view is passthrough and how much is virtual environment when turned, and doubles as the home button; there are also two volume buttons on the right frame.[21][23][20] Notebookcheck and UploadVR both reported that vivo showed dedicated VR game controllers for gaming, and Notebookcheck reported support for streaming VR games from Steam; the store demonstrations described by reviewers used hand tracking only.[20][5][21]
Software and features
Vivo Vision runs OriginOS Vision, a spatial version of the OriginOS software vivo ships on its phones. UploadVR describes it as vivo's own fork of Android rather than Google's Android XR, which powers the Samsung Galaxy XR.[5] The interface presents floating windows that can be positioned, scaled and anchored in the real environment, with several virtual environments (vivo's page lists a desert, terraced fields and snowy mountains) and wireless screen projection from vivo phones and PCs.[2] The system has its own app store.[21]
Vivo's launch messaging centered on media viewing: a virtual cinema screen that vivo describes as up to 120 feet (GSMArena and Notebookcheck give 120 inches and about 1,400 inches respectively), 180 degree panoramic video, live sports and esports viewing from multiple perspectives, and playback of spatial photos and videos, including footage captured on the vivo X200 Ultra phone.[1][14][20][22] The demonstration program in China included 3D and 180 degree films, a mixed reality game called "Little V's Journey", a live Honor of Kings esports feed supplied by Huya, and a dance performance demo.[24] Vivo's Chinese product page notes that a number of listed features depend on later over-the-air updates.[2]
Reception
Coverage of the March 2025 reveal focused on the resemblance to Apple Vision Pro. Road to VR headlined that vivo was "copying Apple's name and design", and UploadVR called it a "blatant" clone, while noting that no working unit had been demonstrated.[4][10]
Antony Vitillo of The Ghost Howls spent 37 minutes with a demonstration unit at a vivo store in Beijing in September 2025. He found the displays sharp with no visible screen-door effect, but noted blur toward the edges, slight reflections at the periphery and a field of view that felt narrower in practice than Meta Quest 3. He judged passthrough "definitely good" for static viewing but worse than Meta Quest 3 for reading text, with heavy motion blur when turning the head. Positional tracking was slightly choppy on fast head movement, hand tracking lagged when grabbing objects, and eye tracking produced fewer false selections than Vision Pro in his experience. He reported no facial marks after the session and credited the low weight, though he found the strap awkward to adjust alone and felt pressure on the nose. His conclusion was that the headset was "much better than expected" but "less refined" than Vision Pro, with a lack of compelling content as its main weakness.[21]
Ian Chee of Lowyat.NET tried the headset at a vivo Malaysia event in October 2025. He found it comfortable for a 20 minute session but said the band had to be tight to keep the image in focus. Hand and eye tracking required calibration exercises; he had trouble pressing virtual buttons, which he attributed to depth perception, and hand detection failed when his hands were under a table or too far away. He described the speakers as capable of getting "pretty loud".[23]
Notebookcheck's August 2025 comparison, based on Chinese hands-on videos, rated the display highly and said passthrough quality was similar to Apple's but noisier in dark rooms; it reported that reviewers found the speakers worse than Vision Pro's and saw gaming as an area where vivo had an advantage.[20] A Tencent News creator who attended the Chinese launch put the comfortable wearing limit at about an hour, citing heat and forehead pressure, and found the passthrough view narrow and noisy in low light.[24]
