Triangle Factory is an independent video game studio in Ghent, Belgium, that makes multiplayer first-person shooters for virtual reality headsets. It was founded in 2010 and is led by co-founder and CEO Timothy Vanherberghen.[1][2] The studio's own site describes it as a game studio "with a strong focus on FPS games" and on XR.[3]
Its three released VR games are the arena shooter Hyper Dash (2021), the 5v5 tactical shooter Breachers (2023) and the 32-player combined-arms shooter Forefront (early access 2025, full release 2026). Before these, the studio built location-based VR games for The Park, a chain of free-roam VR venues run as a corporate venture of the telecom company Telenet and 9.5 Magnitude Ventures. In June 2020 it was reported that The Park would take a stake in Triangle Factory.[4] In 2026 the studio announced that the online servers of Hyper Dash would close on 1 November 2026, and it put a planned co-op spin-off, Breachers: Outbreak, on hold.[5][6]
History
Founding and early XR work
The Belgian Game Awards studio directory gives Triangle Factory's founding date as 25 January 2010.[1] In June 2020, Telecompaper described the company as a team of twenty game developers and designers working on mobile and XR (VR and AR). Besides entertainment titles, it made location-based VR content and XR applications for other companies in training, engineering, medicine and space.[4]
Much of that location-based work was for The Park, which a Telenet press release describes as "a corporate venture of Telenet and 9.5 Magnitude Ventures" offering free-roam VR experiences.[7] According to Telecompaper, Triangle Factory had worked with Telenet on The Park's games, among them the zombie shooter The Hallow and the competitive multiplayer game NanoClash.[4] The same Telenet release, about The Park's venue at the OH Leuven stadium, states that The Park develops its new experiences "together with the Ghent-based company Triangle Factory".[7] In April 2023 The Park Playground released NanoClash Focus, a fully mobile free-roam VR game played on HTC VIVE headsets; the operator's CTO named HTC and Triangle Factory as the partners that helped bring it "to life".[8]
On 16 June 2020, Telecompaper reported that The Park would take a stake (participatie) in Triangle Factory, so that it could react faster to VR innovation and create more of its own content. The size of the stake was not reported. The same report presented Hyper Dash as a Triangle Factory game that two or more players could play together from their own living rooms.[4]
Hyper Dash
Hyper Dash is a 5v5 arena shooter built around dashing, sprinting, rail grinding and dual-wielded weapons.[9] An open alpha went out through SideQuest in April 2020, with cross-play against PC VR headsets.[10] UploadVR reported that the SideQuest build had been downloaded nearly 150,000 times before the full release.[11] The game launched on 25 February 2021 on Oculus Quest for US$20, together with SteamVR, Viveport and an Oculus Rift version with cross-buy.[11][12][9] It later became free-to-play, a change UploadVR dates to 2022.[5] The studio's Belgian Game Awards entry claims more than 2.5 million players for the game and more than 500,000 monthly active users in 2024.[1]
In July 2026, Triangle Factory said it would shut down the Hyper Dash online servers on 1 November 2026. The studio explained that the game "is no longer generating enough revenue to cover its ongoing server and maintenance costs", and that third-party software in the game prevented it from opening the game to community hosting. A final update keeps the game playable offline; DLC sales ended, and players received 6,000 free in-game credits.[5]
Breachers
Breachers, a tactical 5v5 shooter in which attacking Enforcers and defending Revolters fight over a bomb, was released on 13 April 2023 for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Pico headsets and PC VR at US$30, with cross-platform play on all versions from launch. More than 77,000 people had played its open alpha.[13] A PlayStation VR2 version followed on 20 December 2023, also with cross-play.[14] Vanherberghen described the game to Shacknews in 2023 as a cross between Counter-Strike and Rainbow Six Siege made for VR.[15]
Breachers was built in Unity using Unity Gaming Services, including Multiplay server hosting and Vivox voice chat. In Unity's case study, the studio reports 110,000 monthly active users in the game's first month, and Vanherberghen said that "cross-platform play was the number-one priority so we could ensure an active user base across different VR systems."[2]
Forefront
Triangle Factory revealed Forefront at the VR Games Showcase in March 2025. It is a Battlefield-style shooter for up to 32 players with land, air and sea vehicles.[16] Vanherberghen said the studio wanted to "bring our inspiration and childhood experience of playing multiplayer shooters to VR".[17] After an open beta in October 2025, the game entered early access on 6 November 2025 on Quest, Steam and Pico. At that point it had 16v16 matches, four-person squads, four classes, more than 20 weapon types and 10 vehicles.[18][19]
The full 1.0 release came out on 23 April 2026 at US$27.99. It added new content and, for PC VR, real-time lighting.[20][21] The studio has released monthly updates since, reaching version 6.0 on 17 September 2026.[22] In February 2026 the studio announced a PlayStation VR2 version that will support cross-play with the other VR platforms, planned for later that year.[23][24] As of October 2026 the PlayStation Store lists it as announced, with the release date "to be determined".[25]
Breachers: Outbreak
On 23 June 2026, at the VR Games Showcase, the studio announced Breachers: Outbreak, a four-player online co-op zombie extraction shooter spun off from Breachers. It was planned for Quest, Pico and SteamVR headsets as well as flatscreen PC, which would have been a departure from the studio's player-versus-player games.[26] In September 2026 Triangle Factory said it had put development on hold, stating that "it's a hard time to build and ship a high-quality VR game like this" and that "some of what we built for Outbreak will find its way into the main Breachers game itself."[6] Breachers itself continued to receive updates: version 40.0, released on 6 October 2026, added a temporary zombie-themed mode called Infected.[27]

Team and recognition
Unity's case study names Vanherberghen as CEO and co-founder and Pieter Vantorre as CTO, and describes a team of 30.[2] The Belgian Game Awards directory lists a studio size of 41.[1]
At the 2023 Unity Awards, Breachers was a runner-up in both Best AR/VR Game and Best Multiplayer Game.[28] At the 2024 Belgian Game Awards it won gold for Best Multiplayer and silver for XR Game of the Year, and the awards site lists Triangle Factory as runner-up for Changemaker of the Year.[29]
