Skyworth W1 Pro is a virtual reality head-mounted display released in 2021. It is a lightweight tethered headset made by Skyworth for use with a personal computer. Skyworth VR's English-language website listed it as "Tethered W1 Pro (for PC)", next to the phone-connected Skyworth W1, listed as "Tethered W1 (for Phone)".[1]
The W1 Pro has two 2.1-inch 1600 x 1600 fast-response LCD panels, a 94 degree field of view and a short-focus double-lens optical module. Skyworth gives its weight as 130 g, excluding the cable and face mask.[1] The headset has to be connected to another device; according to Skyworth, the connected device streams the content and powers the glasses through the same cable.[1] Skyworth's support pages group it with its "PC-VR" equipment, which has to be connected to a computer or a VR host to be used.[2]
Design and hardware
Display and optics
Each eye has its own 2.1-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 1600 x 1600 pixels, for a combined resolution of 3200 x 1600. Skyworth lists the pixel density as 1078 PPI and markets the display as an "IMAX Giant Screen with 3.2K Resolution". The company says the fast LCD screens have low latency.[1]
The optics are listed as a "Double lens short focal module". Skyworth credits this ultra-short-focus optical module for the light body. The field of view is 94 degrees.[1]
The headset supports 0-800 degree diopter adjustment for nearsighted users, and Skyworth states that each eye can be adjusted independently, so that users do not need to wear their own glasses inside the headset. The manufacturer gives 56-70 mm as the adaptive range of interpupillary distance.[1]
Connection and power
The W1 Pro takes its video signal over HDMI 2.0. Skyworth's specification table lists the input interface as "USB 2.01+USB POWER1+HDMI2.0*1" and the signal input as "HDMI2.0, 24/30/36-bit RGB 16/20/24-bit". The PC supplies power to the headset at 5V/1A.[1] The phone version, the W1, instead uses a single USB Type-C connection with DisplayPort 1.4 and is powered by the phone.[1]
In answer to a question about external devices, Skyworth's FAQ for its PC-VR devices states that the host has a Micro USB interface that can be used for external positioning kits and other equipment.[2]
Sensors, audio and controls
The headset contains an IMU, which Skyworth describes as "3 axis load force sensing + 3 axis gyroscope". It also has an infrared proximity sensor with a detection distance of about 5 cm.[1]
Audio comes from built-in stereo speakers, which Skyworth markets as spatial audio, and a 3.5 mm jack for external earphones. The headset has two buttons, Confirm and Return, and was offered in white and black.[1] An optional VR controller, designed for one-handed use, can act as a remote control for navigating menus or as a gamepad with a trigger.[1]

Software and PC requirements
Skyworth advertised compatibility with more than 500 VR apps and named SteamVR, Viveport, YouTube and Netflix as examples.[1] Its FAQ lists watching movies, playing games and experiencing virtual reality content with a dynamic seat as the main uses of its PC-VR equipment.[2]
According to the FAQ, the PC needs at least an Intel Core i3 processor (7th generation Core, Kaby Lake, Skylake-X or Apollo Lake and above), 4 GB of memory and an NVIDIA 1050Ti graphics card or better. The graphics driver has to be updated to the latest version, and the PC must have SkyworthVRHelper V2.5 or later and SteamVR 1.18.6 or later installed. The device firmware can be upgraded locally through the assistant software.[2]
