Scope AR is an enterprise augmented reality software company that makes WorkLink, a platform for authoring and viewing 3D work instructions, training content and remote expert assistance on phones, tablets, desktops and headsets such as Microsoft HoloLens 2 and Apple Vision Pro. The company was founded in 2011 in Edmonton, Canada; its website lists headquarters in San Francisco and an office in Edmonton.[1] Its co-founders are Scott Montgomerie (CEO), David Nedohin (president) and Graham Melley.[1]
Its customers are mainly in aerospace, aviation, maintenance, advanced manufacturing and defense.[2] Lockheed Martin builds the HoloLens 2 content it uses in manufacturing NASA's Orion spacecraft in-house with WorkLink.[3] In June 2026 TELEO Capital announced that its portfolio company Flatirons Solutions, a technical content management company based in Boulder, Colorado, had acquired Scope AR, and that Scope AR would operate under the Flatirons Solutions brand.[4]
History
Founding and early work
According to the company's own timeline, Scope AR was founded in Edmonton in 2011 to apply augmented reality to business use cases. It gave its first public demonstration of AR as a training tool for complex industrial work at MINExpo 2012, and it lists Boeing, Toyota, Caterpillar and NASA as customers that joined in 2014.[1] The company took part in the startup accelerator Y Combinator in 2015; Y Combinator lists it in its Summer 2015 batch, with Montgomerie and Nedohin as founders.[1][5]
At Augmented World Expo on 1 June 2016, Scope AR launched WorkLink, a tool for non-technical staff to create step-by-step AR instructions from converted CAD data, and released a new version of its remote assistance application, Remote AR. The new Remote AR added depth camera support so that markers were no longer required, in-app audio, a low-bandwidth mode and a Windows desktop client for the remote expert. At launch, WorkLink ran on most iOS and Android phones and tablets and on selected AR eyewear.[6] The following month the company announced 2 million US dollars in seed funding from investors including Susa Ventures, Presence Capital Fund and New Stack Ventures.[7]
Caterpillar, HoloLens and remote assistance
In November 2016 Scope AR licensed a version of Remote AR to Caterpillar for remote support across the Cat dealer network.[8] The resulting product, CAT LIVESHARE, was made officially available at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in March 2017; the companies said hundreds of users at six Cat dealers in countries including the United States, South Africa, Australia, Denmark and Canada were already using it.[9]
At AWE in June 2017 the company updated Remote AR with Wikitude's image recognition and tracking technology, which let annotations stay in place on equipment without a printed 2D marker on supported standard devices.[10] On 13 December 2017 it released Remote AR for Microsoft HoloLens, adding live video calls with 3D annotation and world-locked annotations on the headset; experts could join from iOS, Android or Windows devices or a Windows desktop.[11]
In May 2018 Scope AR said it would merge Remote AR and WorkLink into one application, so that experts on a support call could use WorkLink instruction files. It planned to show an early build at AWE 2018, and according to Tom's Hardware, Montgomerie expected to roll out the combined application in July.[12]
Series A and later growth
On 20 March 2019 Scope AR announced a 9.7 million US dollar Series A round led by Romulus Capital, with SignalFire, Susa Ventures, Haystack, New Stack Ventures, North American Corporation and AngelList also taking part. Krishna Gupta of Romulus Capital and Wayne Hu of SignalFire joined the board. The company said the round brought its total funding to 15.8 million US dollars.[13] A 2021 TechCrunch report gave a lower figure, describing the Series A as the bulk of "nearly $12 million" raised from investors.[14]
A WorkLink update announced in May 2019 added session recording, so that remote support calls could be saved and replayed for training. The platform was offered on HoloLens, the RealWear HMT-1 and mobile devices, and the company announced Becton, Dickinson and Co. as a new customer along with an expanded deployment at Lockheed Martin.[15] Scope AR's timeline also records HoloLens 2 support that year.[1]
In February 2021 the company launched WorkLink Create, a browser-based authoring tool that lets customers build 3D instructions on top of CAD models with a drag-and-drop editor instead of writing code in Unity. Published content is viewed through WorkLink's mobile and HoloLens apps. TechCrunch reported that the slow uptake of AR headsets had pushed the company toward phone and tablet AR, and that Scope AR was an authorized HoloLens 2 reseller.[14]
Scope AR launched WorkLink for Apple Vision Pro on 2 February 2024. The company said instructions authored for other hardware would run on VisionOS without changes.[16] In May 2024 it announced a partnership with eQ Technologic, whose eQube-DaaS platform connects WorkLink to PLM, IoT, MES, ERP and learning management systems; the two companies named Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Rolls-Royce as shared customers.[17]
Acquisition by Flatirons Solutions
On 16 June 2026 TELEO Capital Management announced that Flatirons Solutions had acquired Scope AR. Flatirons makes a technical content and task management platform for aerospace, aviation, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and defense organizations, and the stated aim was to join its procedure management with Scope AR's visual work instructions and remote expert tools in "a single, industrial AI platform". Scope AR would operate under the Flatirons Solutions brand, with the combined company headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, and teams in the United States, Canada, Europe and India. Montgomerie was quoted as CEO of Scope AR, and Vincent Fauveau as CEO of Flatirons.[4][2] Financial terms were not disclosed.[18] In September 2026 the Scope AR website carried a banner stating that the company "is now part of Flatirons Solutions".[1]

As of 2026 WorkLink is organized into Create, View, Collaborate, Manage and Integrate functions. Scope AR describes it as importing CAD files into web-based, no-code authoring, publishing to Windows, iOS and Android, supporting shared-view remote calls with annotation and session recording, and connecting to PLM, MES and other systems through a GraphQL API, with cloud and on-premises deployment options.[19]
XR work
The best-documented use of Scope AR's software is at Lockheed Martin. In a 2020 NASA article, Lockheed Martin said it had started using AR headsets in 2017 and had used them in building the Orion spacecraft for Artemis I. It builds content for its HoloLens 2 headsets in-house with WorkLink. Shelley Peterson of Lockheed Martin said that across four sites, AR let the company finish spacecraft manufacturing tasks in 90% less time than with traditional methods, and a NASA lead said that using it to locate click-bond fasteners for wiring harnesses saved up to three weeks on the crew module adapter.[3] Scope AR's own timeline says Lockheed Martin reported 95% lower technician overhead and 72% faster resolution time in 2018, and that the two companies were featured at Microsoft Ignite in 2021.[1]
Other customers named in the company's announcements include Boeing, Toyota, Honeywell, Assa Abloy, GE, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, Northrop Grumman and Danaher.[13][16] In the 2026 acquisition announcement, Scope AR's customer list was Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Rolls-Royce, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Honeywell, Oshkosh and General Dynamics.[4]
