Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies VR is an upcoming single-player virtual reality adaptation of the 2013 courtroom adventure game Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies. It is developed and published by the Tokyo studio Amata K.K. under an official license from Capcom, the owner of the Ace Attorney series. The game was revealed with a trailer during the Meta Connect 2026 keynote on 23 September 2026 and is scheduled for release in 2027 on Meta Quest headsets and on the newly announced Meta VR Glasses.

Amata describes it as the first time the Ace Attorney series has appeared in VR. The game can be played with controllers, or with hand tracking gestures and a voice-activated "OBJECTION!" command for presenting evidence and calling out witnesses. The product information on the official website gives the shorter title Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies VR. The Japanese title is 逆転裁判5 VR. As of 25 September 2026 the game has been announced but not released, and its price has not been announced.

Gameplay

The game keeps the two-part structure of the original: investigation of crime scenes to collect evidence and testimony, followed by courtroom trials in which the player looks for contradictions between witness statements and the evidence. Amata lists four headline features for the VR version:

Amata's Japanese-language announcement adds that the hand tracking mode, which is supported on Meta VR Glasses, uses simple pinch and tap operations. It also states that series systems used in the original to detect emotional contradictions in testimony and to reason through the facts of a case are playable in VR. UploadVR described the voice feature as letting players shout the series' "Objection!!" line themselves. The game is for one player. The fact sheet in the version of the press release distributed to media lists a playtime of "15+ Hours" and says downloadable content is planned.

Story

The story follows the original game. The player takes the roles of defense attorneys Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice and Athena Cykes. Phoenix returns to practicing law after eight years, and the story opens in a badly damaged courtroom. The three lawyers work to end what the game calls the "Dark Age of the Law", a period in which, in Amata's words, "the pursuit of victory trumps the pursuit of the truth." Writing for Siliconera, Jenni Lada noted that the first screenshots appeared to show "Turnabout Countdown", the case that opens the original game.

Background

The Ace Attorney series began in 2001 on the Game Boy Advance. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies is the fifth main entry. Capcom released it for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan in July 2013 and in Western regions in October 2013, then on iOS in August 2014 and Android in May 2017. In January 2024 it was included in the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy collection for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Development

Amata K.K. was founded in Tokyo in 2008. It developed smartphone games for other Japanese publishers before expanding into VR, video and other media. Its earlier VR work includes the escape-room game Last Labyrinth and the action-adventure game The Tale of Onogoro, which was released on the Meta Quest Store on 17 March 2022.

The VR version is made under a license agreement with Capcom. The copyright notice on the official materials reads "©CAPCOM Licensed to and published by AMATA K.K."

Release

Meta included the game in its Connect 2026 list of new titles for Meta VR Glasses and Quest, alongside games such as Dice Throne Digital, Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities and Two Point Hospital. Meta's post said the new lineup includes games built for hand tracking, so they can be played without controllers on Meta VR Glasses or with them on Quest. Amata published its press release, a teaser website and an announcement trailer on 24 September 2026 (Tokyo time). The game will be distributed through the Meta Horizon Store, where a store page was already listed at announcement, and the Japanese release states that it will be download-only.

According to the official product information, the game is rated IARC 12+ and supports Japanese, English, French, German, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. The price is listed as "to be announced".

Reception

The game had not been released as of September 2026. Siliconera described it as the next new Ace Attorney game, a VR remake of Dual Destinies. In an opinion piece for Game Informer, Charles Harte questioned whether text-heavy, mostly unvoiced dialogue suits long headset sessions and said he would have preferred a VR version of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. He added that because an outside studio was handling the port, Capcom's own team might still be working on a new mainline game.
