Operation Warcade VR is a single-player arcade shooter for virtual reality, developed and published by Ivanovich Games. It is played with tracked motion controllers on HTC Vive and Oculus headsets with Oculus Touch, through SteamVR, and it runs on Windows.[1] The Steam store page lists a release date of 2 June 2017.[1] A separate PlayStation VR version was reviewed in April 2018.[2]
Overview
The game is based on late 1980s war arcade shooters. According to its Steam page, it has two modes: a Classic mode of six levels and a final boss, without the coin-based retries of an arcade cabinet, and an Immersive mode of 36 levels and 108 missions in which weapon upgrades unlock over time.[1] The store page also describes a gravity gun for picking up objects in the scenery and launching them at enemies, and an "immersion" system for shooting from positions such as a helicopter, a trench or a tank.[1] The page says the game is compatible with a pp-gun, Hyperkin and other controllers fitted with an HTC Tracker.[1]
Reviewers of the PlayStation VR version describe a shooter inspired by the arcade game Operation Wolf. PlayStation Country reports six environments of six levels each, unlocked with medals earned from challenges, and "Immersion Points" that move the player into a different perspective, such as a helicopter gunner or sniper.[3][2]
Reception
Steam user reviews were rated "Very Positive" (93% positive of 278 reviews) as of October 2026.[1] PlayStation Country gave the PlayStation VR version 6/10, calling the Immersion Points an original idea but criticizing the graphics and a lack of intensity.[3] Apotion called it "a lot of fun to play" while noting poor textures and pop-in.[2]
