Degica (styled DEGICA; legal name DEGICA Co., Ltd.) was the name of a Japanese company that published and co-published PC games on Steam and operated the KOMOJU online payment platform. It was founded on 13 June 2005 by Jack Momose.[1] The company says the name was a shortening of "Digital Cart".[2] Its games department, branded Degica Games, worked with Kadokawa on the RPG Maker game-creation series and published a number of virtual reality titles on Steam and other stores between 2016 and 2020.[3][4]

Degica's VR work included the HTC Vive demo and free Steam release Muv-Luv VR (2016), Steam releases of Kodansha's VR idol series Hop Step Sing! (2017), and the rhythm game Hatsune Miku VR, which it published with Crypton Future Media on PC VR, PlayStation VR and Oculus Quest between 2018 and 2020.[5][6][7] In June 2021 the games department became a separate company, Komodo Co., Ltd.,[8] and on 5 March 2026 DEGICA Co., Ltd. renamed itself KOMOJU Co., Ltd. after its payments product.[2]

History

The company was established on 13 June 2005, with Jack Momose as founder and CEO.[1] In 2016 it launched KOMOJU, an online payment service. By March 2026 the company described KOMOJU as a multichannel payment platform with Japanese and other local payment methods in South Korea, China, Southeast Asia and Europe, used by more than 20,000 merchants, and it had added KOMOJU Terminal and Tap to Pay for in-person payments and Payment Links for selling without an online store.[2]

On the games side, Degica worked with Kadokawa on the RPG Maker game-creation software. Siliconera reported on 11 June 2020 that Degica and Kadokawa had announced RPG Maker MZ, the next entry in the series, for release on PC that summer.[3] Mogura VR reported on 20 October 2016 that Degica and CFlat had released two HTC Vive games on Steam that day, Destroyer and Head It!.[9] The next day Degica began a weekend Steam sale of titles it had published or worked on, which included both VR games as well as Muv-Luv and the RPG Maker software.[4]

Komodo spin-off and rename

The official RPG Maker blog announced that "starting June 1st, the games department of Degica has evolved and become its own company: Komodo!" The post said the RPG Maker team was unchanged and that new end-user license agreements would name Komodo Co., Ltd. in place of Degica Co., Ltd.[8] Steam store pages for VR titles that Degica had published, including Hatsune Miku VR and the Hop Step Sing! releases, list KOMODO as publisher as of October 2026.[10][11]

The parent company kept the payments business. KOMOJU announced that DEGICA Co., Ltd. had changed its name to KOMOJU Co., Ltd. effective 5 March 2026, so that the corporate name matched its main product, with no change to services or existing contracts. Staff e-mail addresses moved from the degica.com domain to komoju.com.[2] The company's Japanese profile lists DEGICA as its former trade name (旧商号) and gives its address as Kichijoji, Musashino, Tokyo.[12]

XR work

Muv-Luv VR

Degica and the developer ixtl organized a free "Muv-Luv x HTC Vive" hands-on event at Bellesalle Akihabara in Tokyo on 3 April 2016. Visitors could play a short VR piece set in the Muv-Luv Alternative universe on the HTC Vive, in which they fought the alien BETA, and the schedule included a session with the original author, Degica and the developers.[5] In Tokyo Otaku Mode's event report, Iwanaga of Degica's development department said the game had taken one month to develop; the report adds that the team used assets and 3D model data produced for other games.[13] A free Muv-Luv VR release followed on Steam on 17 June 2016, with Degica Games credited as developer and publisher. Delisted Games records that it was removed from Steam on 14 January 2018, together with the original Steam releases of Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative, and attributes the delistings to a change in publishing rights.[14]

Hop Step Sing!

Hop Step Sing! is a VR idol series from Kodansha whose songs had earlier been released on Google Play and DMM. Mogura VR reported on 30 June 2017 that two songs, "Kisekiteki Shining!" and "kiss×kiss×kiss", had come to Steam with HTC Vive support and room-scale movement, priced at 498 yen per song; it listed Kodansha as developer and Degica as publisher.[6] The Steam store credits Kodansha, Polygon Pictures and Lantis as developers of the HQ Edition releases.[11]

Hatsune Miku VR

Hatsune Miku VR is a rhythm game in which players use their controllers to hit notes sent out from speakers on the stage while the virtual singer Hatsune Miku performs; it also has a mode for watching music videos.[7] Gematsu reported in February 2018 that publishers Degica Games and Crypton Future Media would release it for PC via Steam on 8 March, with support for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Road to VR gave the date as 9 March and named Degica Games as the game's developer; the Steam store credits Crypton Future Media as developer.[15][16][10] An archived copy of the Steam page from before launch lists Crypton Future Media as developer and Degica as publisher, with support for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.[17]

Later versions followed on other platforms. Mogura VR lists the Oculus Store release for Rift on 7 June 2019 and the PlayStation VR release on 5 December 2019.[18] Mynavi News listed Degica as publisher of the PlayStation VR edition, a download-only release priced at 2,525 yen including tax.[19] Crypton Future Media and Degica announced on 13 October 2020 that the version for Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 had been released that day; gamebiz reported that it was a launch title for Oculus Quest 2.[7] Mogura VR reported that the Quest version had ten songs and did not need a PC.[18]
