Time Rifters is a single-player "co-op" shooter developed by Proton Studio Inc and built for the Oculus Rift. It was released on Steam for Windows and Mac on 21 October 2014, and the Steam listing names no separate publisher.[1] The game was developed for the Rift from the start and was a finalist in the Oculus/IndieCade 2013 VR Jam.[2] A Steam tag lists it as a VR game, although the Steam page does not mention the Rift by name.[1]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked the Steam listing and review summary, Opsive's game page and the developer's December 2013 forum post against the added statements. About review dates.

Overview

Each run gives the player four lives. Every life after the first adds a ghost of an earlier attempt that fights alongside the player, so the player effectively cooperates with their own previous runs.[1] The developer described the concept in a December 2013 forum post as letting the player be "your own team mates", and said the demo was being made to work without a headset but was "way more awesome in VR".[3]

The Steam listing names six upgradable weapons, three episodes of five arenas each, highscore boards and an original soundtrack. Its "Let's Replay" mode is described as an asynchronous multiplayer mode in which players use ghosts that other players have uploaded to the Steam Workshop. The store page also lists a level editor, leaderboards and full controller support.[1]

Reception

Steam user reviews were rated Very Positive as of October 2026, with 348 of 398 reviews positive.[4]
