PolyDome is a free VR music experience developed and published by Plan8, a studio based in Stockholm.[1][2] It was available for Samsung Gear VR through Oculus Concepts by February 2016, and a SteamVR version for Windows followed on Steam on 9 August 2016.[2][1] The Steam listing carries the Early Access genre tag.[1]
Overview
PolyDome is a non-competitive musical environment that changes as the player interacts with it. Steam describes it as comparable to a sequencer, but as a place to explore and create musical phrases and sounds rather than a tool for producing finished music, with no goal of winning or losing.[1] Road to VR described the Gear VR release as a meditative experience in which users create musical combinations by connecting sequences of floating gems.[2]
The Steam version requires a SteamVR headset with tracked controllers and supports standing or room-scale play.[1] It is single-player only.[1] Plan8's site, as archived in November 2020, advertised the game as made for Samsung Gear VR and available in the Oculus Store.[3] Road to VR reported that the Gear VR version added new features and soundpacks, and that the project had earlier been a finalist in Oculus' 2015 Mobile VR Jam.[2]
