Meta Glasses is a line of smart glasses developed by Meta Platforms in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the eyewear group that owns Ray-Ban and Oakley. Announced on June 23, 2026, it is Meta's first AI glasses line to launch under the company's own brand rather than the Ray-Ban or Oakley names used by its earlier products, and it carries a lower entry price of $299.[1][2][3]
The line launched with three frame styles: the Meta Adventurer and Meta Fury, both priced at $299, and the Meta Starfire, a $399 model designed in collaboration with media personality Kylie Jenner.[4][5] Like the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN glasses before them, Meta Glasses pair an integrated camera, open-ear speakers, and a microphone array with the Meta AI assistant, and they do not include a visual display or overlay digital content onto the wearer's view.[6] The core hardware is carried over from the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2), with the principal differences being the Meta branding, the lower price, and the debut of Meta's Muse Spark AI model.[7][2]
Background
Meta and EssilorLuxottica have collaborated on camera glasses since the Ray-Ban Stories of 2021. The partnership expanded with the first-generation Ray-Ban Meta in 2023 and the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2), Oakley Meta HSTN, and Meta Ray-Ban Display models announced at Meta Connect in 2025. In their joint launch materials the two companies described the result as the deepest lineup of products in the AI glasses category, ranging from Ray-Ban Meta, which they call the number one selling AI glasses in the world, to Oakley Meta and the in-lens Meta Ray-Ban Display.[1][8]
Until the Meta Glasses launch, every product in that catalog had been sold under an EssilorLuxottica eyewear brand. The June 2026 line marks the first time Meta has applied its own name to AI glasses. The glasses are still co-developed and manufactured in partnership with EssilorLuxottica; "in-house" refers to the branding and not to Meta producing the hardware alone.[1][9] Meta chief technology officer Andrew Bosworth framed the move as a way to widen the audience beyond the premium Ray-Ban tier, stating that reaching people "isn't just about even design or style, it's also about the price point that you can reach."[9][10]
Design
The Meta Adventurer uses a rectangular shape with thin edges, comparable to a classic Wayfarer, and is offered in standard and large sizes.[2][4] The Meta Fury shares a similar rectangular silhouette but with a bolder, thicker frame. The Meta Starfire has a slimmer oval profile with a more rounded look than the other two styles.[4][5] Across the Adventurer and Fury styles there are 26 distinct frame and lens combinations at launch, in colors that include Classic Black, Classic Tortoise, Racing Green, Linen, Merlot, Mahogany, and Sandstone, with sun, photochromic Transitions, polarized, and clear lens options developed by EssilorLuxottica.[2][4]
All three styles add user-adjustable fit features that were not on earlier Ray-Ban Meta models, including three-way adjustable nose pads, adjustable temple tips, and over-extension hinges.[5] The glasses are compatible with prescription lenses across a total power range of -12 to +2.25. Meta introduced an Rx Lens Swap option that lets customers add prescription lenses through their own optician after purchase without voiding the warranty.[2]
Hardware
The Adventurer, Fury, and Starfire reuse the same chipset, camera, storage, and connectivity as the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2).[7] Reporting on the launch identified that hardware as the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 platform with 32 GB of onboard storage, paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera capable of 3K video and open-ear speakers.[11] Meta describes the audio system as open-ear speakers paired with an advanced multi-microphone array with wind noise reduction; reporting on the launch described it as a five-microphone array.[2][9] Connectivity uses Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth.[12]
Meta rates the glasses for over 8 hours of battery life on a single charge, with the included foldable charging case providing up to 40 additional hours.[1][2] Like the rest of the Ray-Ban Meta line, the glasses focus on hands-free photo and video capture, audio playback, calls, and voice-driven assistance rather than any on-lens visual output.[6]
Software and Meta AI
Meta Glasses are the company's first AI glasses to ship from day one with Muse Spark, which Meta describes as the first model out of Meta Superintelligence Labs.[1][2] The glasses use Meta AI, activated by the phrase "Hey Meta" or by a dedicated action button, for spoken questions, visual understanding of what the camera sees, translation, and hands-free capture.[6][3] At launch Meta expanded live translation by 14 new languages, including Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, and Korean, bringing the total to 20 languages.[2][5] Meta also said a pedestrian navigation feature offering turn-by-turn walking directions would arrive through a later software update.[3][9]
The Meta Starfire adds Kylie Jenner's voice as a selectable option for Meta AI and for spoken interface elements such as onboarding prompts and battery readouts.[5][13]
Models and pricing
| Model | Starting price | Frame style | Distinguishing features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meta Adventurer | $299 | Rectangular, thin edges (standard and large sizes) | Classic profile; widest color and lens selection |
| Meta Fury | $299 | Boxier, thicker rectangular frame | Bolder look sharing Adventurer hardware |
| Meta Starfire | $399 | Slim oval, rounded profile | Designed with Kylie Jenner; gemstone accent on the right lens, metal nose pad, and Jenner voice option for Meta AI |
The Adventurer and Fury undercut the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) Wayfarer, which started at $379, by $80 while reusing much of the same hardware.[4][7] The Meta Starfire is sometimes referred to by Meta as "Meta Glasses by Kylie." It carries a gemstone accent on the right lens and a metal nose pad,[5][13] and its charging case includes a built-in mirror.[14]
Availability
Meta Glasses went on sale the day of the announcement, June 23, 2026. They are sold through Meta.com, Best Buy, Amazon, LensCrafters, and Sunglass Hut, along with additional select retailers.[1][2] The initial markets are the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Australia.[2]
Reception
Coverage of the launch focused on the strategic shift away from the Ray-Ban name. Reporting described the move as Meta signaling that it views smart glasses as a mainstream category it intends to own, using a two-tier approach in which the Ray-Ban Meta line keeps a premium, fashion-led position while the cheaper Meta Glasses target price-sensitive buyers.[9][10] Several outlets noted the open question of whether the lower-priced line would expand the overall market or cannibalize Ray-Ban Meta sales.[9] Some commentators cautioned that dropping the Ray-Ban name also removes the fashion credibility that had helped soften privacy concerns about always-on camera glasses.[10]
The launch was also read against upcoming competition. MacRumors connected the timing to Apple's rumored smart glasses, widely expected in 2027.[4] Other reporting framed the Starfire as a preemptive move against Google's Gentle Monster smart glasses, and noted Snap's higher-priced Specs as a rival in the category.[13][9] In a hands-on, Engadget praised the Starfire's adjustable nose bridge and overall comfort and the lower pricing, while noting that most of the features were not new to the category and that the gemstone accent was subtle.[5]
