Lunar Flight is a lunar module flight simulator with Oculus Rift support, developed and published by Shovsoft, an independent Australian studio led by Sean Edwards. It is based on the arcade game Lunar Lander and runs on Windows. Rift support was in closed beta in July 2013,[1] and the game is listed on Steam as VR supported, with a Steam release date of 10 April 2012.[2] This page records a December 14, 2014 release on Oculus Share for the DK1 and DK2.

Overview

The player pilots a fictional lunar module on missions that include cargo delivery, survey data collection, and the recovery of lost cargo. Missions pay out experience points and money, which go toward fuel, repairs, and upgrades for the module. According to the Steam listing, the game also has time trial challenges with online leaderboards, a pilot ranking based on experience, 51 achievements, and an online multiplayer mode with weapon systems.[2]

Road to VR described the game as a slow-paced, first-person cockpit experience that suits the Rift, with yaw, pitch, roll, and directional thrusters to manage along with fuel, acceleration, and heading.[1] The Steam listing names TrackIR support, Newtonian physics, an Xbox 360 controller as the default gamepad, and support for multiple input devices including HOTAS setups. The VR requirement is listed as SteamVR or Oculus PC.[2] In December 2015, Road to VR reported that Shovsoft was redesigning the cockpits and planned a new moon as part of a downloadable content package.[3]
