I Am Your Beast VR is a virtual reality first-person shooter adapted from I Am Your Beast, a 2024 flatscreen revenge thriller by the studio Strange Scaffold. The VR version was made through Flat2VR Spark, a program run by Flat2VR Studios that pairs experienced VR modders with studios that want their games ported to VR, and it is published by Impact Inked.[1][2] It was released for PC VR on Steam on 17 September 2026 at US$22.99, and it is the second release from the Spark program after FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR.[3]
The player is Alphonse Harding, a secret agent who has been retired for six years. When his former employer, the Covert Operations Initiative (COI), asks him to return for "one last job" and he declines, the COI starts a guerrilla war against him in the forest.[1][3] The game is a series of short, timed combat missions built to be replayed for faster times.[3]
Gameplay
The campaign is fully voiced and has more than 20 levels, which the Steam listing describes as replayable "micro-sandboxes" with side objectives.[1] Each mission has a time limit and a simple goal, such as killing all enemies, destroying satellites or reaching the escape point. According to UploadVR, missions are graded from D to S rank based on completion time, and time is taken off for headshots and for completing optional objectives. Some later missions unlock only after the player reaches a set rank in an earlier one.[3] A no-fail option removes the time limit, at the cost of a score penalty.[3]
Weapons include pistols, sniper rifles and bear traps, and the player can grab, throw and catch them by hand.[1] There is no reloading: a gun that runs out of ammunition can be thrown at an enemy, and the player then picks up a weapon dropped by an enemy.[3] The Steam listing also names climbing and close-quarters combat, and describes a tunnel network the player uses to escape enemy forces.[1]
UploadVR reported that climbing is done by pushing up on the analog stick even though trees and rock walls show grab points, and that health refills and laptops activate when the player presses grab while a hand passes over them; weapons are the only objects the player actually holds.[3] Between missions the player hears recorded conversations in Harding's bunker, with subtitles shown over video of the wilderness. The UploadVR reviewer compared them with a video of the original game and wrote that "the only difference in VR was the bunker."[3]
Comfort
The game supports snap turning with adjustable angles but has no teleport movement option.[3] UploadVR noted that the fast movement in combat may be too intense for players new to VR.[3]
Presentation
The game has a comic book-inspired, cel-shaded art style.[1][3] The soundtrack is by RJ Lake, whose earlier work listed on the store page includes Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, Unbeatable and El Paso, Elsewhere.[1] The only language supported is English, with full audio, interface and subtitles.[1] The store page's content notice warns of stylized graphic violence, including comic book-style blood splatter, head explosions and ragdoll deaths.[1]
Development
The original I Am Your Beast was released for Windows on Steam on 10 September 2024. Strange Scaffold developed it, and Strange Scaffold and Frosty Pop published it.[4] In September 2026 UploadVR reported that the flatscreen game held an "Overwhelmingly Positive" user rating on Steam from about 4,500 reviews.[2]
Flat2VR Studios co-founders Elliott Tate and Eric Masher announced the Flat2VR Spark initiative at the VR Games Showcase on 12 August 2025. Under Spark, modders and developers work with a game's official source code in "small expert pods" to build a licensed VR adaptation, while Flat2VR Studios handles licensing, quality assurance and platform certification. The partners receive credit and a share of revenue, and the intellectual property stays with the original rights holder.[5] I Am Your Beast VR was revealed with footage during that announcement. At the time, platforms and a release window had not been confirmed; Flat2VR Studios told UploadVR that "It is our intention to deliver every Flat2VR game on as many platforms as possible."[6]
The publisher, Impact Inked, is a publishing label opened in May 2025 by Impact Reality, the parent company of Flat2VR Studios.[7] Steam credits both Flat2VR Spark and Strange Scaffold as developers.[1] The Flat2VR Studios game page calls it "A Flat2VR Spark release, published by Impact Inked".[8]
Release
The first look at the game's VR gameplay was shown at the VR Games Showcase on 23 June 2026, where it was announced for SteamVR in Early Access later in 2026.[9][10] On 10 September 2026 UploadVR reported a SteamVR release date of 17 September.[2] The game launched on Steam on that date, and the store page lists it as a full release rather than an Early Access title.[1]
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 12 August 2025 | VR adaptation revealed during the Flat2VR Spark announcement at the VR Games Showcase[6] |
| 23 June 2026 | First VR gameplay shown at the VR Games Showcase; SteamVR Early Access planned for later in 2026[9] |
| 10 September 2026 | Release date of 17 September announced[2] |
| 17 September 2026 | Released on Steam for PC VR at US$22.99[3] |
On Steam the game is marked VR Only and supports Steam Achievements (28 in total) and Steam Cloud. Its system requirements give the VR support as "Open XR- Meta Quest Touch" (referring to OpenXR and Meta Quest Touch controllers), and list minimum requirements of a 64-bit version of Windows 8, 4 GB of RAM and Intel HD Graphics 2000.[1] UploadVR reviewed the game on a Meta Quest 3 streaming from a PC through Virtual Desktop.[3]
Reception
UploadVR published a review-in-progress on 15 September 2026 without a score, saying it would add a final score after finishing the game. The reviewer, Mike Johnson, called the action "absolutely stellar" and the game "gleefully entertaining", but wrote that it "feels more like a very strong VR mod than a native VR game and its general lack of some VR-specific mechanics will likely turn some players away." He said he would recommend it "to action junkie VR gamers, particularly those who enjoy a short-form, roguelike-style gameplay loop." The review also said the game could use stronger haptic feedback.[3]
As of 29 September 2026, Metacritic listed only UploadVR's review and showed no Metascore, since at least four critic reviews are needed for one.[11] On the same date the Steam store page showed 42 user reviews, all of them positive.[1]
