iQIYI Qiyu MIX (奇遇MIX) is a virtual reality head-mounted display released in December 2022. It was developed by Qiyu, the XR hardware business of the Chinese video streaming company IQIYI.[1] The MIX is a standalone headset built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2. Unlike Qiyu's earlier VR-only models, it has stereo full-color passthrough from two RGB cameras, which lets it run mixed reality applications alongside conventional VR content.[5][6]
The headset was sold in China from 29 December 2022, starting at 3,199 yuan with three years of bundled game or video content.[2] In 2023 Qiyu's operating company ran into a funding crisis, its online store listings were removed, and a planned follow-up MR headset was never released.[7][8]
Announcement and release
Caixin Global described the MIX, unveiled in Beijing in December 2022, as the first XR headset from Qiyu, which it identified as iQIYI's extended reality unit (formerly iQiyi Smart). Qiyu's earlier products had been VR-only.[1] Pre-orders ran from 23 to 29 December 2022. VR Tuoluo reported that by the morning of 26 December nearly 3,000 units had been pre-ordered on JD.com across all editions.[6] General sale began on JD.com and Tmall at 8 p.m. on 29 December 2022.[2]
The MIX was offered in four editions, each bundling three years of content rights:[2][5]

IT Home and PingWest reported that the second headset in the two-headset bundle cost 2,599 yuan.[5][9]
Design and hardware
Processor and memory
The MIX uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 with an Adreno 650 GPU, 8 GB of LPDDR4X memory at 2133 MHz and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.[5][2] iQIYI's developer documentation lists the same chip, memory and storage along with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, two microphones, two speakers, a USB Type-C port and a 3.5 mm headset jack.[10] The headset has active cooling.[2]
Display and optics
The headset has an LCD panel (a Fast-LCD, according to VR Tuoluo) with a combined resolution of 3664 x 1920 pixels and a density of 773 ppi.[6] It uses dual aspheric lenses and has a 93-degree field of view.[5] Qiyu marketed the display as a "4K-class" screen able to show a virtual cinema screen equivalent to 3,000 inches.[3][5]
According to iQIYI's product page, the hardware supports a 90 Hz refresh rate, but the default is 72 Hz and the 90 Hz mode must be switched on manually.[3] The developer documentation lists the display at 90 FPS.[10]
The lens spacing is fixed at 63.4 mm, and Qiyu stated an optical fit range of 57.4-69.4 mm of interpupillary distance. The headset accommodates glasses frames narrower than 16 cm.[4][9]
Cameras, passthrough and tracking
The MIX has six cameras: four fisheye cameras for inside-out tracking and two color passthrough cameras.[10] The passthrough cameras are 16-megapixel units mounted in the center of the front panel.[5][11] VR Tuoluo wrote that the stereo passthrough from two RGB cameras was the biggest difference from the earlier Qiyu Dream series, and one of the features that set the MIX apart from the Pico 4 and Meta Quest Pro, which it described as using a single RGB camera.[6] In its launch material Qiyu called the MIX the world's first consumer standalone MR headset with stereo full-color passthrough.[2]
Head and controller tracking use Qiyu's own "Zhuiguang" (追光) computer-vision system with six degrees of freedom. Qiyu claimed 1000 Hz tracking, sub-millimeter positioning accuracy and millisecond-level response.[3] The developer documentation gives a tracking field of 180 degrees horizontal and 180 degrees vertical.[10] The product page says the play area can be up to 10 m x 10 m, provided the space has visual features for tracking.[3]
Controllers
The MIX ships with two 6DoF controllers.[10] In a review for 93913.com, each controller had a trigger, a side button, a thumbstick and three buttons, and ran on one AA battery for about 15 hours.[11]
Design, battery and weight
The MIX keeps the flip-up visor and ring headband of the earlier IQIYI Qiyu Dream Pro, with the battery at the back of the head strap for front-to-back balance.[11][2] The battery is 5,500 mAh as a typical value (5,400 mAh rated).[3] Qiyu claimed about 2 hours of continuous gaming or 2.5 hours of video playback.[2]
Qiyu gave the weight of the headset's main unit as 348 g.[2] VR Tuoluo listed the net weight of the product as 692 g.[6]
Software and features
Mixed reality
A passthrough background mode lets users see their surroundings while using the system interface.[11] The system's MR multi-screen mode can run up to five virtual screens at once. Qiyu's store offered MR apps at launch, including a dinosaur app.[2] The product page stated that multi-page browsing and a virtual dinosaur feature would require an over-the-air system update.[3]
Video and games
The headset includes iQIYI's video library, with more than 5,000 panoramic videos plus 3D films and interactive VR films, played through Qiyu's iQUT cinema. It also has a children's section with content for ages 6 to 15.[3][5] At launch the Qiyu store offered more than 100 games.[5]
PC streaming
The MIX can stream Steam games wirelessly from a PC.[5] Qiyu's minimum PC requirements for streaming are:[3]

Reception
VR Tuoluo described the headset's design as very similar to the earlier Dream series, with stereo color passthrough as the biggest change.[6] After two weeks with the headset, the 93913.com reviewer found that the passthrough image showed little distortion, even when close to objects, and wrote that the Pico 4 and Meta Quest Pro had been less satisfactory in this respect. The reviewer also noted better trigger and side-button feel than on the Dream Pro controllers. Their conclusion was that the MIX mainly added the passthrough cameras to the Dream series design, and they hoped more MR content would follow.[11]
Later status
In August 2023, the 21st Century Business Herald reported that products in Qiyu's JD.com, Tmall and Taobao stores had been delisted and that more than 100 current and former employees were owed wages. The paper stated that iQIYI was the largest shareholder of Qiyu's operating company, Mengxiang Zhanfang (梦想绽放), with 49.62%.[7] Sina Tech reported in December 2023 that a 400 million yuan Series C round announced in January 2023 had not been paid in full and that further layoffs were underway. The report added that development of Qiyu's next MR flagship was complete, but the device had been held back by the funding problems; it had been planned for the first half of 2023.[8]
In June 2024, iFeng Qingdao reported that a court had listed Beijing Mengxiang Zhanfang Technology (北京梦想绽放技术有限公司) as a judgment debtor for 1.06 billion yuan on 14 June 2024. It said the iQIYI Qiyu XR business, run by the Beijing company's Qingdao-registered parent, had stopped operating, and listed the MIX among the company's VR products.[12]
