DigiLens Argo (styled ARGO) is an augmented reality head-mounted display in a glasses form factor, made by the waveguide company DigiLens for enterprise and industrial workers. DigiLens announced it on 3 January 2023 and described it as a standalone device, meaning it does not need a tethered phone or computer.[1] ARPost called it DigiLens' first mass-market product; the company had been known mainly as a supplier of optical waveguides for AR glasses.[4][5]

The glasses use DigiLens' Crystal30 holographic waveguides with a 30-degree field of view and run DigiOS, an operating system based on the Android Open Source Project, on a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 chip.[2] DigiLens markets the device for remote assistance, workflows, training and data visualization in fields such as healthcare, logistics, telecommunications and defense.[1][2]

Reviewed 27 September 2026. Checked specifications against the DigiLens ARGO spec packet v2.2, dates and quotes against DigiLens, Ultraleap, Taqtile and PR Newswire releases, and reception and history against MIXED, Moor Insights, KGOnTech, The Ghost Howls and optics.org. About review dates.

Announcement and release

DigiLens introduced ARGO on 3 January 2023. Chief executive Chris Pickett said: "ARGO is the future of wearable computing. We are proud to launch the device the market has been asking for, and waiting for."[1] Before ARGO, DigiLens had built a developer kit called Design v1, which was not widely available. Nima Shams, DigiLens' vice president and general manager of product,[4] told ARPost that Design v1 was the company's first system built on the Qualcomm XR2 and that ARGO uses the same system. He said DigiLens designed its own LED projector for ARGO because no suitable projector module was available for Design v1.[5] Asked about a consumer version, Shams said the company's "official answer is 'no'".[5]

DigiLens did not publish a price or shipping date at the announcement.[5][6] In a January 2023 analysis, Moor Insights & Strategy wrote that DigiLens said ARGO was "already shipping to its early access Visualize Program customers but will be in full production by the end of the quarter". The firm also reported that pricing would be below that of HoloLens and Magic Leap headsets and would vary because the headset was to be sold together with software and services from channel partners.[4] At AWE USA 2023 the device on show was still a prototype. The XR blog The Ghost Howls reported that production was planned for the third quarter of 2023, and DigiLens booth staff said that selected partners would receive the first units that year and that the product would go on sale to everyone the following year.[7] DigiLens has not published a list price; its specification packet directs interested buyers to contact the company or request a demo.[2]

Design and hardware

Display and optics

Each eye has an EnLiten30 projector, which DigiLens describes as an LED-lit liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) light engine with an HD display and an output of more than 3 lumens. The image is carried to the eye by a Crystal30 Gen3 waveguide in a landscape layout with a 30-degree field of view.[2] DigiLens states that the waveguides are more than 85 percent see-through and deliver more than 2,500 nits to the eye. The same document's comparison table gives a maximum brightness of more than 3,500 nits.[2] MIXED reported that the waveguides sit in lenses made of Gorilla Glass and that ARGO does not use the plastic waveguides DigiLens introduced in 2021.[6] The Crystal30 waveguides are replaceable, according to DigiLens.[2]

Display analyst Karl Guttag, who saw ARGO prototypes at CES 2023, wrote that ARGO uses a 1280 by 720 full-color LCoS display and that the projector uses an LCoS device from OmniVision. He noted that this fairly conventional engine needs a large "brow" above the eyes to hide it.[3]

Computing and sensors

ARGO runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 platform with 12 GB of memory and 128 GB of UFS flash storage. DigiLens lists eight encrypted cores capable of FIPS 140-2 Level 1 and Level 2 and a neural and machine-learning engine.[2] In May 2023 DigiLens said the device also uses Qualcomm's FastConnect 6900 connectivity system.[8]

The glasses have three visible-light cameras. A 6DoF tracking camera sits on each temple, and a 48-megapixel camera sits above the nose bridge.[6][2] DigiLens says the tracking cameras support 6DoF inside-out tracking, depth and SLAM, and that the center camera has autofocus, lossless digital zoom, optical and electronic stabilization and 4x4 pixel binning for low light. The camera can scan barcodes and QR codes and stream video.[2] A five-microphone array with beamforming picks up the wearer's voice in noisy places, and stereo spatial speakers are built into the frame.[2] Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E with multiple antennas, Bluetooth 5.2, GNSS (GPS and GLONASS) and USB 3.1 Gen 2 over USB-C.[2]

Power, build and fit

DigiLens lists a 6 Wh internal battery.[2] MIXED reported that the battery can be recharged over USB-C or hot-swapped.[6] Moor Insights & Strategy reported that DigiLens was aiming for about two hours per battery in typical use and that 4G LTE would be offered through a future smart head strap.[4]

The specification packet says ARGO is designed to MIL-STD-810G, complies with the ANSI Z87.1 eye-safety standard, is water and dust resistant, and has an optional head strap. Its comparison with Microsoft HoloLens 2 lists an IP65 rating and a weight of about 200 grams, with the note that weight depends on configuration.[2] MIXED reported that the temples are removable so that the lenses can be fitted into optional add-ons such as protective eyewear housings.[6]

Input

DigiLens designed ARGO to be used hands-free and in any body position. Input options include an always-on voice interface in several languages, spatial head-pose interaction in 3DoF and 6DoF, hand tracking and gestures, and an integrated wheel and click button that can be used with gloves.[2] Ultraleap's Leap Motion Controller 2 hand-tracking camera, launched in May 2023, can be attached to ARGO, according to Ultraleap.[9] The company Wisear partnered with DigiLens in May 2023 to pair ARGO with its neural-interface earphones for control without hands or voice.[10]

Software and ecosystem

ARGO runs DigiOS, which DigiLens describes as AOSP Android 12 with an SDK, head-worn Android APIs and over-the-air updates. The company says the device is compatible with OpenXR, WebXR and Snapdragon Spaces.[2] In May 2023 DigiLens announced that ARGO was among the first purpose-built devices certified as Snapdragon Spaces Ready, giving developers access to features such as positional tracking, plane detection, spatial mapping, occlusion and hand tracking.[8] In March 2024 DigiLens said ARGO had been certified for use with Microsoft Intune mobile device management.[11]

DigiLens added software partners over the following years. A partnership with Taqtile was made public at AWE 2023, and in June 2024 Taqtile released its Manifest work-instruction software for ARGO, aimed at defense and industrial customers.[12] In June 2024 DigiLens announced a collaboration with Google Cloud under which ARGO uses Google's Gemini models, together with its camera, IMU, GNSS radio and microphones, for AI assistance with context about the wearer's surroundings.[13]

In September 2024 DigiLens and Hololight announced that Hololight Space, a streaming platform integrated with NVIDIA Omniverse, would let ARGO wearers view and interact with large 3D models and digital twins. The announcement stated that ARGO could support models of up to 30 million polygons in tests so far, compared with about 1 million rendered natively on most mobile XR devices.[14]

In May 2025 Ramblr.ai joined DigiSaaS, DigiLens' marketplace of certified software for ARGO, to run AI agents based on its vision-language model on ARGO, using the glasses' sensors for workflow guidance and automated documentation.[15] In June 2025 Taqtile's Manifest also joined DigiSaaS.[16] In September 2025 DigiLens certified Kognitiv Spark's RemoteSpark remote-support software for ARGO. According to the announcement, RemoteSpark was already deployed with the UK Ministry of Defence.[17]

Enterprise and government use

In June 2024 DigiLens signed a memorandum of understanding with Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS) to advance waveguide and head-up display technology for sensitive applications. According to DigiLens, the partnership at the Y-12 National Security Complex would focus on sensor integration and on support for maintenance, repair and operations and situational awareness for first responders, maintainers and operators. optics.org reported that ARGO is said to meet many US government requirements for AR, such as modularity, high display transparency and low eye glow.[18]

On 7 October 2025 DigiLens and the software company Altoura launched ARGO Next, a program to move enterprise customers from HoloLens 2 and other devices to ARGO while keeping their existing Microsoft cloud infrastructure. The announcement noted that HoloLens 2 support ends on 31 December 2027 and that Altoura's software is offered as a replacement for Microsoft's Dynamics 365 Guides and Remote Assist applications.[19]

Reception

CNET's Scott Stein tried ARGO shortly after its announcement. MIXED quoted him as saying: "I saw no shimmers, and none of the rainbows or smudging I've seen on many headsets. It was like looking through a clean pair of glasses." He found the field of view smaller than that of HoloLens 2 but the image brighter, which helped outdoors, and he considered the display area good enough for reading information and viewing photos.[6]

Karl Guttag wrote that DigiLens had "greatly reduced" the forward light leakage known as eye glow, and that its color uniformity, while still showing the problems common to diffractive waveguides, had gone from poor to "among the better diffractive waveguides" he had seen. He considered the 30-degree field of view too small for immersive games but "more than sufficient" for many enterprise uses. He criticized the ergonomics: too much weight rests on the large nose pads, which sit almost exactly where the pads of prescription glasses would go. HoloLens 2 has room for most normal eyeglasses, whereas ARGO needs specialized prescription inserts.[3]

Trying a prototype at AWE 2023, The Ghost Howls praised the crisp colors and reported that video stayed visible even when looking toward the show floor's ceiling lights. The prototype's loose frames kept slipping, so comfort could not be judged, and the reviewer wrote that the design looked more like a devkit than something to wear on the street.[7] Anshel Sag of Moor Insights & Strategy wrote that DigiLens had "a compelling product on its hands" that filled a gap for lightweight, low-profile standalone AR glasses.[4]
