CleanSheet Soccer 2 is a virtual reality goalkeeping game developed and published by the sports technology company INCISIV. The player takes the role of a goalkeeper and uses their hands to punch, block, catch and deflect shots across training drills, simulated match situations and arcade-style minigames.[1][2] The developer's product page and its Steam page are titled CleanSheet 2.[3][4]

The game launched on PlayStation VR2 on 11 June 2026 at US$34.99 and on Meta Quest on 17 September 2026 at US$24.99.[5][6] INCISIV describes it as an adaptation of its subscription-based goalkeeper training product CleanSheet Pro, sold instead as a one-time purchase.[7][8]

Gameplay

The game is built around saving shots rather than scoring them.[1] It has three main modes. Match Play presents motion-captured players in situations modeled on professional football, including in-swinging corners, curling free kicks, two-on-one breakaways and penalties. Drills are short exercises for reflexes, handling and decision-making. Shot Creator lets players build their own scenarios and drills.[5][9]

The drills include Matrix Reflex, in which training balls deflect off a randomizing launcher toward the player, and Lightning Hands, in which the player hits a randomly placed green button to fire a ball.[9] Pick-A-Save, a drill new to this game, asks the player to punch or catch a color-coded ball on command and is aimed at decision-making.[7][9]

Career mode

At the start of the career mode the player joins one of three fictional clubs: Waveport City, Forgehill Rovers or Stanton United. Each club has a coach (Penny, Gunnar and Albus respectively) who sets challenges based on how the player performs.[7][3] Players begin in the Beginners League and progress through five divisions toward the Legends League.[3] Completing challenges and making saves earns Loot Balls that contain new gloves and unique soccer balls, and results are posted to online leaderboards.[3][9]

Platform differences

The PlayStation VR2 version requires the PS VR2 Sense controllers and a room-scale play area of at least 2 m by 2 m.[5] It has a full trophy list, including a Platinum trophy, and uses a fixed goal size. INCISIV says the Meta Quest version offers three selectable goal sizes.[3][7]

Development

INCISIV was co-founded by Cathy Craig, its chief executive, whose research uses virtual reality to study decision-making in sport.[10] A 2019 Sync NI profile described her as a professor of experimental psychology at Ulster University.[11] The first CleanSheet Soccer launched on Quest in 2022 and reached PlayStation VR2 in 2024. It used motion capture of real strikers and offered Set Play and Quickfire modes.[12] Its follow-up, which UploadVR called CleanSheet Soccer Pro, was a Quest-exclusive training simulator with a subscription fee.[8] INCISIV markets CleanSheet Pro as a training platform for goalkeepers, coaches and clubs.[13]

INCISIV announced CleanSheet 2 on 20 May 2026 as a PlayStation VR2 exclusive. The studio said the new game removes the subscription fee and the detailed GKIQ performance tracking of CleanSheet Pro, and wrote that it lets players "enjoy all of the incredible, gamified goalkeeping elements for a one-time purchase".[7] James Stafford, INCISIV's business development lead, told UploadVR that the game was built in direct response to demand from the PlayStation community.[8][10] According to UploadVR, the CleanSheet games had reached more than 180,000 paid players across PS VR2, Meta Quest and Pico by the time of the PS VR2 launch.[2] By the end of July 2026 the PlayStation VR2 version had received the Interactive Coaches Update, which adds coach dialogue, tracks player performance over time and gives AI-powered feedback recommending training sessions. Each coach has a distinct personality and coaching style.[1]

Reception

In a hands-on article for UploadVR, James Tocchio called it "a simple idea, executed very well" and "a focused, energetic, and surprisingly authentic goalkeeper experience that feels perfectly suited to VR". He described it as physically demanding, writing that a session of around 20 minutes leaves the player "feeling the burn" in the hamstrings, quads and shoulders.[9] As of 29 September 2026, Metacritic listed no critic reviews for the game.[14] On the same date, the PlayStation Store showed an average user rating of 4.33 out of 5 from 45 ratings.[5]
