CM Games (formerly Creative Mobile) is an Estonian video game developer and publisher based in Tallinn. It was founded in 2010 as a studio making casual games for smartphones and became known for the mobile racing series Drag Racing and Nitro Nation.[1][2] In virtual reality it is known for Into the Radius, a survival shooter that started in 2017 as one employee's experiment and had sold 800,000 copies across all platforms by January 2025, and for its sequel Into the Radius 2.[3][4]
By August 2025 the company had split into several independent studios. The Into the Radius team became CM Immersive, which now owns the series and is credited as its developer, while CM Games continues as the publisher of the VR puzzle game UnLoop.[5][6]
History
Mobile games
CM Games dates its founding to 2010 in Tallinn.[7] Estonian World reported that the company, then called Creative Mobile, was founded in August 2010.[8] The legal entity, CM Games OÜ (registry code 11617092), was entered in the Estonian commercial register on 19 March 2009 and has earlier carried the names Osaühing D.V.Entail and Osaühing Creative Mobile.[9] Vladimir Funtikov co-founded the company at the age of 23 and was its CEO in 2014, when Pocket Gamer.biz added him to its Hall of Fame.[10]
Drag Racing was released in 2011. Funtikov said in 2022 that it was "initially made by five people in six weeks" and had accumulated more than 350 million installs.[2] By 2015 the game had passed 100 million downloads on Google Play, and Estonian World reported that The New York Times had named it one of the "10 best games of 2011".[8] According to the company, Drag Racing reached number one in the racing category and the top 10 overall on Android and had 50 million installs in its launch year, and CM Games was named Estonia's "Startup of the Year" in 2012, when it began prototyping the drag and drift racing series Nitro Nation.[7] In 2014 Pocket Gamer.biz wrote that the company's portfolio of first- and third-party titles had reached 200 million installs and that the Drag Racing franchise had made it one of the largest mobile gaming companies in Northern Europe.[10]
In October 2022 Mythical Games announced a partnership with CM Games on Nitro Nation World Tour, a racing game with blockchain-based car ownership.[11] Mythical launched the game on Android and iOS in October 2023, with McLaren Automotive as the first season's headline partner.[12][13] The company says it was a founding member of the Playing for the Planet alliance in 2019.[7]
In a May 2024 interview, MIXED described CM Games as employing about 140 people, with its games having reached 450 million players.[3] Its website now lists more than 70 people in more than 15 countries, more than 500 million players and more than 30 first- and third-party titles published.[7] Vlad Rannik was the company's CEO in early 2025.[4][14]
2025 split
On 19 August 2025 the Into the Radius team announced that "CM Games has recently split into several independent studios" and introduced itself as CM Immersive (CMI), a studio "made up entirely of the team behind Into the Radius". The post said the Into the Radius IP now belongs to CM Immersive, which would be credited as developer instead of CM Games, and that the CM Games logo would remain on previously published material.[5] The Steam store pages for both Into the Radius games now list CM Immersive as developer and publisher.[15][16]
XR work
Into the Radius
Into the Radius began as "an experiment, a passion project of one person", Sergei Kharchenko, the studio's VR evangelist, told MIXED. Prototype development started in spring 2017, when the studio had no previous VR experience.[3] The game was opened to a beta in February 2019, and in March 2019 the team announced that "due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback" it would continue into full production.[17][18] It entered Steam Early Access on 6 November 2019 for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality headsets, and version 1.0 followed on 20 July 2020.[19][20]
A Meta Quest 2 version, which MIXED said was developed by an outside studio, was released on 8 September 2022.[3][21] A PlayStation VR2 version, published by Fast Travel Games, followed on 19 September 2024.[22] By May 2024 the SteamVR version had sold more than 100,000 copies, and by January 2025 the game had sold 800,000 copies across all platforms.[3][4] CM Games states that the game was ranked "Steam VR Platinum" in 2021 and 2022 and reached the top spot on the Meta Quest store.[7]
Into the Radius 2
CM Games said in May 2023 that a sequel was in pre-production and would "follow an Early Access development model like before when the time is right."[23] By May 2024 the Into the Radius team had grown from one person to about 25 developers.[3] Into the Radius 2 entered Steam Early Access for PC VR on 24 July 2024 at 40 US dollars, with two-player co-op and four-player co-op planned for later.[24] Road to VR reported that it sold 40,000 copies in its first week and had earned nearly 3 million US dollars by January 2025. Rannik said the studio chose Steam first "so we can focus on the gameplay."[14] An early access version for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S followed on 21 May 2025.[25] After the 2025 split, development passed to CM Immersive, which took the game out of Early Access on Steam with version 1.0 on 23 April 2026.[5][26]
CM Labs and UnLoop
CM Labs is an internal program, started in 2022, that lets employees pitch their own game ideas each month to a panel of managers, department heads and board members. Approved creators get funding, expert guidance and up to 20% of their weekly working time for the project.[27] UnLoop, a VR puzzle game conceived by Artem Suleimanov, was approved in January 2023 and prototyped in Unreal Engine 5; its first full playtest took place in August 2023.[27] In the game the player is a spy infiltrating a remote space station, and each time loop creates a copy of the player that repeats their earlier actions, so puzzles are solved by cooperating with past selves.[28]
UnLoop was released on Meta Quest and Pico headsets on 5 September 2025.[29] After the standalone release it entered Steam Early Access on 13 November 2025.[30] The Steam store credits Superposition NULL as developer and CM Games as publisher.[6]
