Xion is a virtual reality shoot 'em up with a destructible voxel environment, developed and published by Zenz VR for Windows on Steam. It supports the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with tracked controllers.[1] Steam lists the game as released on 29 August 2018.[1] The Steam page carries an Early Access tag and a 23 June 2017 original release timestamp,[1] and Beyond Frames reported that the game launched on the Oculus Rift platform on 18 October 2018.[2]
Overview
Steam describes Xion as a revival of the arcade and shoot 'em up games of the 1990s, set in a fully destructible voxel landscape. The player designs and upgrades a spaceship and flies it through multiple randomized levels, which the store page names as Cityscape, Red Valley, Island and Volcanoes, and Outer Space, among others. Each level ends with a boss, and the store page states that everything in the environment can be destroyed.[1]
The game is VR only and uses tracked controllers. Steam lists standing and room-scale play and a single-player mode.[1] Beyond Frames quoted the developer as saying the launch version was a vastly improved release that added a comprehensive tutorial.[2]
