War Robots VR: The Skirmish is a free, single-player first-person mech shooter for VR headsets, set in the universe of the mobile game War Robots. It was developed and published by Pixonic and released on Steam on August 10, 2017, with support for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.^[1]^[2] Pocket Gamer reported that it was available on Steam and the Oculus Store.^[2] The Steam page currently lists MY.GAMES as developer and publisher.^[1]

Overview

The game is a short, introductory chapter that puts the player in the cockpit of a giant combat robot. The player and a squadmate fight other robots in a ruined city, in a dark, post-apocalyptic setting with cyberpunk styling.^[2] Pocket Gamer noted that the mechs move slowly but carry heavy weapons such as gatling guns, and that the cockpit includes monitors showing readings of the surroundings.^[2] The Steam page calls the game a "teaser-shooter".^[1]

Pixonic announced the project on June 29, 2017, as its first officially presented project since the mobile game War Robots launched in 2014. It described the game as the first chapter of a War Robots VR line and planned a companion 360-degree video.^[3] The Steam listing shows support for SteamVR, and its notes say an HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or Windows Mixed Reality headset is required. It lists full controller support, recommends an Xbox One gamepad, and says other controllers, including motion controllers emulated as generic controllers, can also be used.^[1]
