VR Battleship YAMATO is a VR exploration application in which the player walks through a full-scale reconstruction of the Japanese battleship Yamato. It was developed by Kanda Technologies, which is also listed as the publisher on Steam.[1] The game was first released on the Oculus Store on December 16, 2016,[2] and the Steam version followed on August 17, 2017.[1] A free demo is also listed on Steam.[3]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked the Steam listing (app 649620), review tally, demo (app 700370) and the DualShockers report against the added statements About review dates.

Overview

The application is a walkthrough of the ship. According to its Steam listing, the first edition lets the player visit the deck, the first bridge, the interior of a main gun, a scene of the crew practicing gun firing, the fire control center, the captain's cabin, the pilot house, the hangar and the ship's kitchen.[1] The Steam page says the reconstruction is based on blueprints and on the recollections of surviving crew members.[1]

The project began as the Battleship Yamato VR Restoration Project, which raised 5,449,893 yen on the Campfire crowdfunding platform, according to DualShockers.[2] The same report said a second phase titled "To Battle Stations", with additional areas and an anti-aircraft drill, was planned for 2017.[2] On Steam the game is tagged as VR only, with tracked controller support, and its stated VR support is SteamVR or Oculus PC.[1]

Reception

On Steam, user reviews across all languages were rated "Very Positive" as of October 2026 (73 of 81 reviews positive).[1]
