TrueScale is a virtual reality application for interior design. It creates 2D floor plans, miniature 3D models and life-size VR environments for houses, apartments and offices.[1] Immersion released the software on Steam on 26 October 2017. Its store listing classifies it as Design & Illustration and Early Access software, with tracked-controller input.[2]

Features

Floor plans and scale views

The workspace is a virtual office with a drawing board for the 2D floor plan. Drawing walls on the board produces a miniature 3D version on a nearby table. The user can walk around this model or lean closer to examine the layout. Entering the model changes the view to a human-sized perspective inside the designed space. Objects can still be moved there, including furniture and doors, so the design can be edited while viewing it from within.[3]

Version 1.010 added automatic detection of imperial or metric units. The drawing board's snapping grid adjusts according to the user's distance: it becomes coarser farther away and finer as the user moves closer.[4]

Object and material editing

Version 1.013 added an Edit Mode for resizing windows, doors and furniture. The user selects an object with a controller and presses the Menu button, or the B button on Oculus controllers, to enter this mode. Dragging the object's sides changes its size, while a dimension scale beside the object displays its dimensions. The patch also added highlighting for interactive objects.[5]

Version 1.014 added material editing. Users can choose materials and fabrics for most objects; the developer changed some models to make them editable. The update also introduced button tooltips and previews for wall and floor materials, windows and doors.[6]

Furniture catalogue

The 2017 version included Wayfair's 3D furniture models. This allowed a room design to use models of products from the retailer's catalogue. HTC's November 2017 description presented the integration as a way to plan an arrangement with furniture that could also be purchased for the physical room.[3]

Development and release

Immersion's real-estate website identifies the company as Immersion Sp. z o.o. in Warsaw and lists TrueScale as its interior-design application.[7] TrueScale is also included in Vive Studios' official content catalogue, credited to Immersion.[8]

Immersion VR's presentation-page description says HTC Vive presented TrueScale at CES 2017 in Las Vegas and gives an intended first-quarter 2017 release.[1] The Steam release followed in October; HTC confirmed availability on Steam and Viveport in its 7 November 2017 article.[2][3]

Published updates

The developer's published patch history documents the following additions and fixes.[4]

Date (UTC) Version Documented changes
31 October 2017 1.010 Unit detection and distance-dependent grid snapping; fixes to texture selection and door/window deletion.[9]
14 November 2017 1.011 Added Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch support, with interface sizing changes for the two controller setups.[4]
7 December 2017 1.012 Added Christmas objects and fireplaces.[4]
5 February 2018 1.013 Added object resizing, Edit Mode and a dimension scale.[5]
14 February 2018 1.0132 Added selection and save feedback; fixed saving with a corrupted cover photo and incorrect saved door/window scales.[4]
17 April 2018 1.014 Added material editing, previews and tooltips.[6]

Early Access status

Steam listed TrueScale as Early Access on 13 October 2026, warning of a stale timeline after over eight years without a developer update. Its historical six-month plan proposed more floors, multiplayer, project sharing and furniture; these were proposals.[2]

System Requirements

Windows

Minimum

The Steam listing retains these minimum specifications.[2]

Component Listed requirement
Operating system Windows 7 SP1 or newer
Processor Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
Memory 8 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
Storage 2 GB available space
VR runtime and play area SteamVR; Standing or Room-Scale

The Windows 7 entry is a legacy application requirement. Steam ended support for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 on 1 January 2024, including client updates and technical support for those operating systems.[10]

Setup Instructions

HTC described Vive room-scale use in November 2017; patch 1.011 added Rift/Touch support that month. These are historical compatibility records.[3][4] For object resizing, the version 1.013 instructions specify selecting the object, entering Edit Mode with Menu or B, and dragging its sides.[5] For material editing, the version 1.014 instructions specify pressing Menu while the selected object is highlighted.[6]
