Show Must Go On (stylized as SHOW MUST GO ON in its store description) is a VR rhythm game developed and published by NiVision for Windows PCs. The player stands on a virtual stage and plays drums, a xylophone and bubble-based instruments in time with music, which wakes up the dancers on stage and raises a score multiplier.[1] It is a VR App that requires a headset and tracked motion controllers; Steam lists it as "VR Only" with support for standing or room-scale play through SteamVR.[1]
The game launched in Early Access on Steam on 9 March 2017 and left Early Access with version 1.50 on 1 June 2017.[1][2] The first release targeted the HTC Vive.[3] A separate version for the Oculus Rift is sold on the Meta Horizon Store.[4]
Gameplay
Each song is played on a stage in front of a group of dancers. Hitting notes on time wakes the dancers one by one, and the numbers shown above their heads are score multipliers that start to apply as more dancers join in. Playing well also fills the stage with colors and light effects.[1]
The Steam store page describes four types of instruments:[1]
| Instrument | How it is played |
|---|---|
| Drums | The player hits a drum at the moment a marker passes through its hoop. |
| Bubbles | The player punctures a bubble at the moment it has completely filled with color. |
| Sound trackers | The player grabs bubbles when they fill with color, using a blue wand for blue bubbles and a yellow wand for yellow bubbles, and also collects the stars that connect the bubbles for extra points. |
| Xylophone | The player strikes a key with a stick when a bubble reaches the key and fills with color. Blue and green bubbles belong to the upper keys, red and orange to the lower keys. |
The xylophone was added in update 1.20 in April 2017 as a new challenge for experienced players.[5] Update 1.01 added an option that adjusts the height of the instruments to the player's height, which the developer said made the game playable for children.[6]
Scoring
Each timed hit is graded, and the grade sets the points awarded.[1]
| Grade | Points |
|---|---|
| PERFECT | 10 |
| GREAT | 5 |
| OK | 3 |
Stars collected in the sound trackers give extra points. Four or more perfect hits in a row, counted separately for the right and left hand, add a bonus of 250 points.[1]
Tracks
The Steam store page lists 36 tracks, each with a difficulty label. The music covers ska, Latin, rock, pop, electro, swing, samba and dubstep styles.[1] Later updates added dubstep tracks (version 1.60) and tracks with Balkan rhythms (version 1.70).[7][8] Track names and difficulty labels below are as listed on the store page.[1]

Development and release
NiVision sold the game in Early Access while adding songs and features through a series of numbered updates. In a post on 12 March 2017 the studio asked players for suggestions and bug reports "because it is EA".[9] After update 1.20, the studio said it had received feedback that the game was too difficult for beginners and added slower tracks with more repetitive sequences.[5]
| Version | Date | Changes announced by NiVision |
|---|---|---|
| 1.01 | 16 March 2017 | Instrument height adjustment; four new tracks in a new genre, for 12 songs in total[6] |
| 1.10 | 31 March 2017 | Three new songs adding dubstep, samba and swing, for 15 songs in total[10] |
| 1.20 | 13 April 2017 | Six new songs for 21 tracks in total, easier tracks for beginners, synchronization fixes and the new xylophone instrument[5] |
| 1.30 | 27 April 2017 | Five new songs for 26 tracks in total, new light effects, a total score summary and a changed method of counting perfect hits in a row[11] |
| 1.40 | 18 May 2017 | New tracks for 30 in total, improved drum setup and improved graphics[12] |
| 1.50 | 1 June 2017 | Full version released, out of Early Access; performance improvements and a fix for a "1 000 000 points issue"[2] |
| 1.51 | 2 June 2017 | Crash fixes[13] |
| 1.60 | 22 June 2017 | New dubstep tracks[7] |
| 1.70 | 14 September 2017 | New tracks with Balkan rhythms[8] |
On 8 June 2017 NiVision wrote that the HTC Vive version on Steam did not yet support the Oculus Rift, that players reporting crashes on the Rift should wait for a dedicated version, and that the game was going through submission to the Oculus Store.[3] As of September 2026, the game is listed in the PC VR section of the Meta Horizon Store for the Rift, priced at US$14.99.[4]
| Platform | Store | Release | Price (US, September 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows PC with SteamVR (HTC Vive) | Steam | Early Access 9 March 2017; full version 1 June 2017[1][2] | $14.99[1] |
| Windows PC (Oculus Rift) | Meta Horizon Store | Listed on the store; release date not shown[4] | $14.99[4] |
Steam also offers a free demo of the game.[1]
Reception
As of September 2026, the Steam store page rates the game "Mostly Positive", with 78% of 38 user reviews positive.[1] On the Meta Horizon Store it has an average user rating of 3.1 out of 5 from 18 reviews.[4] Metacritic lists no critic reviews for the game.[14]
