Richie's Plank Experience is a virtual reality experience in which the player rides an elevator to the top of a virtual skyscraper and walks out along a narrow plank. It was developed and published by Toast Interactive and is listed on Steam for Windows with SteamVR and room-scale tracked controllers.[1] The Steam page gives a release date of December 2017.[1]

A version for the standalone Oculus Quest headset was released on June 27, 2019, priced at $14.99 with cross-buy for the Oculus Store.[2] As of October 2026 the Steam listing was still on sale, and Steam user reviews were rated Mostly Positive (485 of 608 reviews positive).[1]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked developer, publisher, release date, languages, requirements, modes and review counts against the Steam page and API, and the Quest release against UploadVR About review dates.

Overview

The main scenario places the player on a plank at a height the Steam page describes as 80 stories, and the player chooses whether to walk to the end.[1] The Steam listing says the plank's dimensions and orientation can be changed and describes cloning a real-world plank into the virtual one.[1] The Steam page also warns that the experience can cause a loss of balance and recommends two adult supervisors and a clear play space.[1]

The Steam page lists further activities beyond the plank: Fire Deck, in which the player uses "rocket hands" to fly over a city and put out fires, Sky Brush, a sky-painting mode, and Hero Academy activities including Rocket Race, Missile Defense and Fire Fight.[1] The Quest release was described by UploadVR as including the Missile Defence mode, rocket racing and Sky Brush, and as a version playable without a tether on the standalone headset.[2] The Steam listing offers English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese and Korean.[1]
