Reaping Rewards is a short interactive virtual reality narrative game developed and published by Limitless Ltd. The player takes the role of an apprentice Grim Reaper and makes choices with motion controllers. It was released on Steam on 9 June 2017 as a free, VR-only download for Windows, supporting SteamVR and Oculus PC headsets such as the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.[1]

The Steam listing gives an approximate running time of 6 to 8 minutes and tags the game as single-player with tracked controller support.[1] Limitless is the studio that earlier made the interactive VR character piece Gary the Gull.[1]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked title, developer, publisher, release date, price, platform, tags and requirements against Steam store data, plus the Steam review tally, the GDC Vault session page, and the AWN and Dread Central articles. About review dates.

Overview

The player takes the part of a trainee Grim Reaper during a first day of instruction under a mentor. Along the way the story presents emotional dilemmas, and the player resolves them with hand-held motion controllers, which moves the narrative forward.[1] The Steam system requirements list SteamVR or Oculus PC support and standing-only play.[1] A VRDC Fall 2017 session by Limitless founder Tom Sanocki described managing multiple endings and adapting a short film screenplay to interactive VR.[2]

The Steam page credits Matthew Ward as director and Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket as composer, and describes Ward as a Cinematics Director at Bungie who previously worked at Rainmaker, IMD and Lucasfilm.[1] The game was built inside VR with the studio's Limitless VR Creative Environment.[1] Animation World Network described it as the first piece of VR content prototyped and animated within a VR environment, and reported that it was coming soon to the Oculus Store.[3] Dread Central reported the free Steam release in July 2017.[4]
