Pyro VR is a fireworks and explosives sandbox game for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Oculus Touch controllers, developed and published by Virtual Light VR. It was released in Early Access on Steam on 8 February 2017.[1] Steam still lists it as an Early Access title, and its page notes that the developers' last update was more than nine years ago.[1] The Early Access description said a Career mode would be added in the full release, which the developers estimated for the third quarter of 2017.[1]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked the Steam store page, Steam review data and the May 2017 VIVE Blog interview against the lead, Overview and Reception. About review dates.

Overview

The game is a creative sandbox. The Steam listing says the Early Access build contains a sandbox mode with a warehouse of fireworks and explosives and a private backyard to use them in, plus a tutorial level.[1] Players can line up and connect fireworks in sequence to build timed shows.[1] A Career mode with missions as a professional pyrotechnician was announced but marked as not yet available.[1]

In a May 2017 post on the HTC Vive blog, Stephen Reid interviewed a developer, who said the game contained around 50 pyrotechnic products, with fuse modules that connect several fireworks. The developer said the team consulted local pyrotechnicians and recorded real firework sounds, and that the fireworks are modeled on real products.[2] Steam lists the game as VR only, single-player, with tracked controller support, and its requirements call for SteamVR in standing or room-scale play.[1]

Reception

Steam user reviews were rated Mixed as of October 2026, with 35 of 71 reviews (all languages) positive.[3]
