PowersVR is a single-player superhero sandbox VR App developed and published by Pseudocode Games, the work of one developer, Christian Ignatov.[1] It was released on Steam in Early Access for the HTC Vive in early 2017, and its full release followed in October 2020.[2][3] Its Steam listing, where the developer appears as PseudoGames, shows a release date of 10 October 2020, lists the game as VR only with tracked controller support, and names SteamVR or Oculus PC as the supported VR runtimes.[3]
Overview
The player controls one of several costumed heroes in Metropolis, a comic-book-styled city sandbox, and tests that hero's powers. In the early 2017 build UploadVR described eight abilities, including teleportation, a minigun, laser eye beams and flight, spread across a small island with a few basic enemies.[1] The v0.2.0 "Dark Night Update" of April 2017 added two challenges tied to specific heroes, which unlock two new characters, Nightwatcher (grappling hooks) and the Witch (telekinesis).[4]
According to the Steam listing, the finished game has the player follow beams of light to find new heroes and challenges, where a section of the map becomes a separate activity played for a high score. Hidden collectibles unlock artwork in a gallery.[3] The full release enlarged the city to about 40 times its original layout. A planned story mode was dropped, so the game consists of sandbox challenges such as races and combat against aliens.[2] The developer said at launch that more heroes, challenges, Steam trading cards and achievements were planned.[2]
Reception
UploadVR's Jamie Feltham called PowersVR a "superhero simulation" he enjoyed in February 2017, while noting there was little content at that stage.[1] Steam user reviews were rated Mixed as of October 2026.[3]
