Pierhead Arcade is a VR App arcade simulation for SteamVR developed and published by Mechabit Ltd. It is played standing or room-scale with tracked motion controllers, and Steam lists it as supporting the HTC Vive and Oculus Touch controllers.[1] Steam gives a release date of 21 September 2016, and UploadVR reported in 2019 that the game came out officially in late 2016 after a period in Early Access.[1][2] The developer later released a sequel, Pierhead Arcade 2, in Early Access on 28 June 2019.[2]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked the Steam listing (developer, publisher, date, VR support, games, features, review summary) and the UploadVR and Use a Potion! articles against the added statements About review dates.

Overview

The player takes the role of the new owner of an old pier arcade and can play any machine as often as they like, alone or with friends. Steam lists the games as coin-operated attractions, including Rocket Ball, Basketball, Bowling, Comet Drop, Arctic Shuffle, Super Punch, Binary Dash, Honey Rush, Shooting Gallery, Scarab Toss, Dino Whack, Cannonball Bounce, Rapid Fire and a Claw Machine.[1] Each game is played with hand movements that follow the controllers, and the player teleports between machines. Scores are uploaded to Steam leaderboards, and tickets won at the machines can be redeemed for toys at an in-game gift shop. The game also includes an internet radio player and supports online and LAN multiplayer.[1]

Reception

UploadVR described the game in 2019 as "about as close to a 'classic' as you can get in the VR space right now."[2] Daryl of Use a Potion! reviewed the PlayStation VR version in February 2018 and scored it 7/10, calling it "a mixed bag" that was enjoyable for its nostalgic appeal, with bowling and Arctic Shuffle among the stronger games and Comet Drop among the weaker ones.[3] As of October 2026, Steam user reviews were rated Very Positive, with 241 of 277 reviews positive.[4]
