The Pico 4 Enterprise (PICO 4E) is a standalone business virtual reality headset from Pico Interactive. It combines inside-out tracking with built-in eye tracking and face tracking, and uses a business operating environment and app store.[9] The consumer Pico 4 has a different camera configuration.[7]

Reviewed 15 October 2026. Original Enterprise hardware, regional launch records, business software documentation and two model-specific research reports; published specifications are not independent measurements. About review dates.

History and Development

PICO was founded in March 2015.[12] ByteDance acquired the Chinese headset company in 2021.[1]

PICO announced this business edition on 20 October 2022, following the consumer model introduced that September. Its announcement scheduled pre-orders for 1 November and general availability for early December in selected EMEA countries, Australia and New Zealand.[2] In Japan, PICO announced that shipments to pre-order customers began on 10 January 2023, at ¥141,900 including tax.[3]

PICO introduced Ultra Enterprise in September 2024.[13] The 4E targeted training, healthcare, education and productivity deployments. Its enterprise distribution included local sales and support partners.[2] PICO's current business catalog emphasizes the Ultra Enterprise; the older 4E remains documented, while a checked retailer labels its availability limited.[14][4]

Design Philosophy

Enterprise and Pro add inward-facing cameras absent from consumer PICO 4. Pro has 512GB storage and a 6000mAh battery; Enterprise has 256GB and 5300mAh.[7]

The folded pancake optics reduce the front housing depth. PICO places the battery behind the head to counterbalance the display assembly.[9]

Display Technology

The headset uses two LCD panels.[4][6] The manufacturer lists pancake lenses made of PMMA and adjustable brightness, without a peak luminance figure in that specification.[6]

PICO advertises a 105° field of view without identifying an axis. The supported panel refresh modes are 72Hz and 90Hz; these are distinct from camera capture rates.[6]

Eye Tracking

Two internal cameras provide binocular eye tracking. Automatic IPD setup measures the wearer's eye spacing and moves the lenses by motor; software adjustment is also documented.[10]

PICO's older eye-tracking API exposes foveated gaze data and validity status on supported eye-tracked devices, including this model. Applications must implement a compatible rendering path; the API listing does not quantify performance or power savings.[8]

The Unity guide recommends SDK 2.3.0 or later and device system 5.7.0 or later for its refactored eye-tracking APIs. Applications query support, request permission, start tracking and read eye poses. Enterprise-specific functions include pupil information, eye openness, per-eye pose and blink data. Calibration is available in Settings > LAB > Eye Tracking and can also be invoked by applications.[11]

Face Tracking

The face camera supplies facial movement data for avatar animation. The Unity 3.4.0 guide specifies system 5.7.0 or later for camera-based Face Only and Hybrid modes on PICO 4 Pro and Enterprise. It distinguishes these from audio-driven Lipsync Only, which can synthesize blinking and eyebrow animation without measuring those movements. The API exposes 52 blend shapes and 20 visemes; image-driven detection is less sensitive to subtle mouth movements because of camera angle limitations. Hybrid modes also use microphone input and have different processing requirements.[15]

Processing

The 4E uses XR2; the later Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise uses XR2 Gen 2.[7][16]

Tracking System

Four monochrome fisheye cameras track the head and hands; one RGB camera supplies passthrough. Two eye cameras and one face camera complete the eight-camera system.[7] Controllers provide six degrees of freedom with haptic feedback.[2]

Physical Design

PICO specifies 591g complete and 300g without straps. Adjustable side straps and a removable top strap hold the headset in place. A detachable PU face cushion supports cleaning between users.[6]

The pictured headset has a light body and reflective gold front plate.

Connectivity

USB-C supports OTG and USB 2.0/3.0 cables.[6] PICO documents USB and Wi-Fi PC VR through Business Streaming. Its 2.1/2.2 compatibility table includes PICO 4 Enterprise with PUI 5.9.9. A VR-ready Windows PC is needed; Wi-Fi requires a suitable 5GHz router, while wired mode requires USB 3.0 or faster.[5]

After the Enterprise presentation in October 2022, PICO told Real o Virtual that it had no plans for DisplayPort-over-USB-C support on PICO 4 headsets.[17] The Enterprise retailer listing also identifies the absence of an integrated DisplayPort and headphone jack.[4]

Battery

PICO's product page estimates more than two hours from the rear battery, while its launch release advertised up to three hours. These are manufacturer estimates.[9][2] The hardware specification lists QC 3.0 and USB PD 3.0 charging.[6]

Enterprise Features

PICO's 2024 brochure describes launching applications without account registration or social login, an administrator-controlled enterprise store, and SDK support for Unity, Unreal and OpenXR.[10]

That brochure describes a one-year warranty with conditions and local hardware/software support.[10] Japan separately introduced a paid extension, requiring an application within three months of purchase and providing three years of total coverage under its terms.[3]

Business Settings expose home-screen application selection, button customization, power policy and batch app installation. Some switches are restricted to other PICO models.[18] PICO advertises third-party MDM compatibility.[9] Its current pricing separates the free Business Suite, Enterprise SDK and LBE tools from the separately priced cloud Business Device Manager. Remote status, content deployment, team roles and device configuration depend on the selected service.[14]

Pricing Comparison

The checked European retailer listing is €899 excluding VAT and states limited availability. This is a dated listing, rather than a stock guarantee.[4]

Contemporary European prices differed in date, tax basis and included accessories. Meta advertised Quest Pro for €1,799.99 at its December 2022 German launch.[19] A 2021 hands-on Focus 3 review reported €1,404 excluding VAT for its kit.[20] Focus 3 eye and facial trackers are separate accessories.[21][22]

Comparison with Enterprise VR

Prices below retain their source dates and regional bases. The Ultra column refers to its 12GB/256GB configuration.

Strengths and Limitations

Built-in eye/face sensing, motorized IPD adjustment and business administration distinguish the Enterprise configuration. Their usefulness depends on compatible application software.[10]

PC VR requires streaming software and suitable PC/network or USB conditions.[5] The front RGB camera provides video passthrough, rather than an optical see-through view.[9]

Research uses

A 2024 development report by Dias and colleagues used PICO 4 Enterprise and Unreal Engine to prototype vehicle-interface usability analysis. The authors tested engine versions and headset eye data, then chose Unreal Engine 5.1; heat-map implementation and vehicle-prototype validation remained future work. It does not establish a completed eye-tracking accuracy or fatigue study.[28]

Bulk and Tannert's 2025 wheelchair-control study used PICO 4 Enterprise for VR simulator familiarization and Magic Leap 2 for a real powered-wheelchair phase. Five participants completed both conditions. Reported usability scores were 73.4 for VR and 74.9 for AR, with smoother turning still problematic. This small study compared two interaction environments and devices; its results do not establish headset-wide tracking accuracy or clinical safety.[29]
