Paradiddle is a VR App that combines a customizable virtual drum kit with drum lessons and a rhythm game. It was developed and published by Emre Tanirgan and runs on PC VR headsets through SteamVR and the Oculus PC software.[1] It entered Early Access on Steam in 2017 and left Early Access with version 1.0 in November 2022, when a version for Meta Quest also launched through App Lab.[2] Steam lists the full release date as 2 November 2022.[1]

Overview

Paradiddle is described by Road to VR as "part instrument, part teacher, and part game." Players build a drum kit by placing and scaling instruments in a virtual space and can save custom kits. Each drum plays different samples depending on how hard and where it is struck. Beyond drums, the instrument library includes mallet instruments such as the xylophone, marimba and glockenspiel, and auxiliary percussion such as bongos, tambourines and timpani.[2][1] The 1.0 release supports MIDI input and output on PC, so electronic pedals can trigger the kick drum or control the hi-hat.[2]

The app includes beginner lessons and a rhythm game mode with a note highway, multiple difficulty settings, custom song support and leaderboards.[2][1] According to the Steam listing, later updates added multiplayer with a free-play mode and a competitive high-score mode.[1] In October 2023, MIXED reported that the Quest version had grown to 67 instruments and 30 songs, supported up to four players, and added a mixed reality mode, ahead of a planned Meta Quest Store release; the report also said the project had been in development since 2016.[3]

Reception

As of October 2026, Steam user reviews of Paradiddle were rated "Very Positive", with 631 of 689 reviews positive.[4]
