One Dark Night is a free-to-play, single-player virtual reality immersive journalism experience developed and published by Emblematic Group, the company of Nonny de la Peña.^[1] It covers the shooting of teenager Trayvon Martin, who was killed by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman. The Steam version requires SteamVR and was released on 14 December 2016.^[2]

Overview

The experience is built from recorded 911 calls, witness trial testimony and architectural drawings of the condo complex where the shooting took place.^[2] The Steam page credits audio cleaning to the forensic firms Sourcesound and Primeau Productions, and says Primeau's analysis of the reconstructed audio indicates that Zimmerman cocked his gun before he followed Martin.^[2] Because no video of the incident exists, an earlier preview of the project reviewed by UploadVR in 2015 told the story through the audio of witness 911 calls rather than recreating events that could not be verified.^[1]

The Steam listing marks the title as VR only, with SteamVR and tracked controller support, and as single-player.^[2]

Reception

Steam user reviews were rated Mixed as of October 2026, with 43 positive and 52 negative reviews out of 95.^[3]
