Old Friend is an animated VR music video experience by Tyler Hurd, set to the Future Islands song of the same name. It was published by Wevr and released on Steam on December 22, 2016, as a VR-only title for SteamVR and Oculus PC, playable on the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.[1] It had its US premiere in the Virtual Arcade section of the 2016 Tribeca Festival.[2]
Overview
The experience places the player in the center of a psychedelic dance circle set to the song, surrounded by colorful elastic characters. The player's own arms appear as long, wavy limbs that move with the HTC Vive controllers.[3][1] Popular Science described a drum major who lip-syncs and twirls a baton, elastic characters dancing nearby, and anthropomorphic mountains and smiling clouds in the background.[3]
Tyler Hurd, who had worked as a video game animator, told Popular Science that he modeled the dance moves on his friends and spent nine months making the piece, doing the animation and coding himself.[3] The Steam listing describes it as a single-player, VR-only title with tracked controller support that runs with SteamVR or Oculus PC.[1]

Steam user reviews were rated Very Positive as of October 2026, with 93 percent of 133 reviews positive.[1]
