Machine Learning: Episode I is a first-person puzzle VR game for Windows PCs, played with HTC Vive tracked controllers in room-scale space through SteamVR. The Steam store lists it as a single-player action, adventure and indie title and as VR only.[1] It was released on Steam on 10 September 2016.[1]

A copy of the Steam page archived on 1 January 2017 names Singularity Lab as developer and publisher and lists the game as free.[2] The current Steam listing names Volens Nolens Games as developer and publisher and sells the game for US$4.99.[1][3]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked title, developer, publisher, price, release date, VR support, languages and features against the current Steam listing and API, the 2017 archived Steam page and the Steam review summary. About review dates.

Overview

The player takes the role of an artificial intelligence robot built in a DARPA laboratory in the near future. A scientist tests the robot's physical, perceptual and cognitive skills, and the player solves a series of puzzles using the Vive controllers and room-scale movement. The store description says the player has a set of tools for these tasks and has to work quickly and attentively.[1]

The store description ends with a note that further episodes were to come. The Steam listing also shows support for Steam Cloud and Steam Trading Cards, and English as the only listed language.[1]

Reception

Steam user reviews were rated "Mostly Positive" as of October 2026, with 85 of 111 reviews across all languages positive.[4]
