Late For Work is an asymmetric local multiplayer party game for Windows in which one player uses a VR headset to control a giant gorilla. It was developed and published by Salmi Games, and the Steam listing names SteamVR and Oculus PC support, with an HTC Vive or Oculus Rift and motion controllers required for VR play.[1] The game launched in Early Access on Steam on 12 July 2017[1][2] and had its full release on 28 June 2019.[1]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked the Steam store page, appdetails and review API for app 623540 and the Road to VR early access article against each added statement. About review dates.

Overview

One player wears the headset and plays the gorilla, and up to four other players play without VR. Road to VR described the early-access build as a 1 versus 4 game in which the non-VR players operate tanks and fighter jets against the gorilla.[2] The VR player moves by grabbing the ground and pulling it toward them, imitating a knuckle-walking gait.[2] Non-VR players need a gamepad, and keyboard and mouse are also supported.[1] Players swap into the headset between rounds.[1]

The Steam page lists seven modes: Classic Deathmatch, Hide & Seek, Last Man Standing, Bull Run, UFO Invaders, Bodyguard and Ape Escape.[1] Road to VR highlighted Hide and Seek, in which non-VR players hide items the gorilla wants while the VR player searches buildings. At launch the developers expected an Early Access period of nine months to a year, and the article noted that online multiplayer and a single-player campaign were not yet available.[2] The Steam page states that the game spent 23 months in Early Access.[1]
