King Kaiju is a virtual reality sandbox game in which the player controls a giant monster in a destructible town. It was developed by Fire Hose Games, a Boston-based studio, and published by Fire Hose Games; the Steam listing also credits Manekoware as a developer. It runs on Windows through SteamVR and supports the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with tracked motion controllers.[1][2] The game left Steam Early Access on 31 January 2017 and was sold at US$4.99 at that time.[2]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked the Steam listing (developers, publisher, release date, VR-only, standing and room-scale, review summary) and the UploadVR review (Early Access exit, levels, Megacat, campaign length, verdict). About review dates.

Overview

The game is played from a first-person view, standing or in room-scale, with the player's hands acting as the monster's hands. Players smash houses, pick up and throw objects, and destroy vehicles and aircraft in a semi-urban environment, and the monster can breathe fire.[2][1] UploadVR described four levels, three with score-based objectives and one open sandbox without an objective, and put the campaign at about one hour.[2]

A second character, Megacat, is unlocked after the player finishes every level. Megacat attacks with laser eyes instead of fire.[2] The Steam listing requires a VR headset and controllers and lists standing and room-scale play with SteamVR.[1]

Reception

UploadVR reviewed the game in February 2017 and judged it worth a look as a short, casual way to cause destruction, while describing the game as playful rather than a serious simulation.[2] As of October 2026, 77% of the Steam user reviews were positive, which Steam labels "Mostly Positive".[1]
