Guangli Holoswim 2 is an augmented reality head-mounted display announced and offered for pre-sale in 2022.[1] It is a pair of smart swimming goggles made by the Hangzhou company Guangli, with a transparent OLED holographic display that shows swimming data such as distance, time, laps and pace while the wearer swims.[1][3] It is the second generation of the Holoswim goggles and followed the original Guangli Holoswim, whose 2021 Kickstarter campaign was cancelled.[3][4]
Guangli announced the Holoswim 2 on 2 August 2022 and sold it through a Kickstarter pre-sale that ran until 6 September 2022, raising HK$405,024 from 360 backers against a HK$50,000 goal.[1][5] Deliveries to backers were delayed beyond the October 2022 estimate given during the campaign.[2][6] Guangli later released the Holoswim 2s and Holoswim 2 Pro as updated versions.[7]
Announcement and release
Guangli, which was founded in 2017 in Hangzhou, China, describes itself as a leading enterprise in the consumer-level AR industry.[1] LEDinside described it as a company rooted in holographic AR display technology with a focus on consumer-grade AR glasses.[8] Its first swimming product, the original Holoswim, went on Kickstarter in September 2021.[4] According to Gadgets & Wearables, that campaign was cancelled and backers' money returned because the company did not think it could deliver on schedule, and the Holoswim 2 improved on the first model with a lighter weight, a higher display resolution and more features.[3] Guangli's company timeline dates the Holoswim 2 to July 2022 and says it upgraded the display experience, sports-science algorithms, compute platform, battery life and industrial design.[7]
A press release datelined Hong Kong announced the goggles on 2 August 2022, when the Kickstarter campaign opened, and described the offer as a pre-sale at a special price for early adopters.[1] Early-bird pledges started from "roughly $99 or £82", according to Geeky Gadgets, while Gadgets & Wearables later listed the price as "$89 and up".[2][3] Gadgets & Wearables noted that the goggles did not require a paid membership.[3]

Shipping took longer than planned. In a public update posted on 28 December 2022, the Holoswim team wrote that it had intended to send the first shipment by the end of November, but a last-minute change in logistics policy postponed it, and in December most of the team fell sick with fever and coughing after the change in epidemic policy, which the team described as a significant challenge with COVID-19. The team said it then planned to send the first shipment around mid-January 2023 and was working on compensation for backers.[6] Further shipping updates to backers followed through June 2023, and an update on 16 September 2023 asked 22 backers to fill in their shipping addresses.[9]
Design and hardware
The Holoswim 2 looks like a conventional pair of swimming goggles with an electronics module on one side.[3] Swimming data appears on a transparent OLED holographic display in the goggles, which Guangli says shows the information in a simple and uncluttered way.[1] Gadgets & Wearables described the optics as an OLED holographic display combined with an AR diffractive optical waveguide that places the data in the swimmer's line of vision.[3] Guangli's press release describes a resin-based AR optical module with high light transmittance and a 25° field of view; Geeky Gadgets gave the module's light transmittance as 50%.[1][2] The display resolution is 128 x 64.[3][2] Guangli says it develops its holographic resin waveguides in-house, and its company timeline states that the first Holoswim entered production in September 2021 using the company's self-developed Holoresin holographic resin waveguide.[7][8]
The goggles have anti-fog and mirror coatings, four interchangeable nose bridges, and adjustable silicone straps that Guangli describes as FDA-certified.[1] They charge magnetically.[1] Guangli's launch press release gives a battery life of four hours per charge, while Gadgets & Wearables reported a 70 mAh lithium-ion battery lasting around 6-7 hours.[1][3]

Software and features
Built-in sensors and algorithms detect the live metrics of all stroke types, and the goggles monitor, display and record distance, time, laps, pace, calories and heart rate.[1] Gadgets & Wearables reported that the goggles recognize breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke and freestyle automatically, and that heart rate is shown in real time when a separately purchased Polar heart rate monitor is paired.[3] One button switches between Live Metrics Mode, Goal Mode and Custom Mode.[2]
After a swim, data syncs to a companion smartphone app for iOS and Android, which provides analysis such as SWOLF and pace per 100 m, ten levels of training programs, and a social feature.[1][3] When the goggles are connected to an Apple or Garmin watch, they can use the watch's GPS signal to track open-water swims, according to Gadgets & Wearables.[3] The launch press release said Apple Watch compatibility for sharing heart rate and GPS data would come in the future.[1]
The goggles can also alert the wearer to incoming phone calls over Bluetooth when the phone is within 5 meters.[3]
Successors
Guangli has continued the line with updated models. Its company timeline lists the Holoswim 2s in September 2023, which added nano anti-fogging, sedentary reminders, myopia-correction support, improved algorithms and an AI coach, and the Holoswim 2 Pro in June 2024, which added dive-start support and rest detection and integrated with fitness watches including Apple Watch. The same timeline records that Holoswim won a GOOD DESIGN AWARD in 2023.[7] In an April 2026 interview with LEDinside, Guangli described its latest swimming model, the Holoswim 3, which keeps a 70 g weight and increases the diagonal field of view to 28°.[8]
Reception
Gadgets & Wearables compared the Holoswim 2 with the FORM Swim Goggles and the FINIS Smart Goggle, writing that its low price, larger display area and incoming-call alerts set it apart from those products.[3]
