GOLF+ (stylized GOLF+) is a virtual reality golf game for the Meta Quest headsets, developed and published by the Austin, Texas studio Golf Scope Inc.[1] The game began in May 2020 as Pro Putt by Topgolf, a putting title released in partnership with Topgolf Media, and was rebranded to GOLF+ in November 2021 when full-swing play and complete 18-hole courses were added.[2] Since December 2022 it has been the official virtual reality golf game of the PGA TOUR.[3][4]

By February 2025 GOLF+ had sold more than 1.5 million copies on Meta Quest, and Road to VR's May 2026 analysis of Meta's published sales data ranked it the 15th best-selling Quest game of all time by unit sales.[5][6]

Gameplay

GOLF+ simulates golf using the Quest's two tracked motion controllers. The player grips a controller as a club, addresses the ball, and performs a real swing or putting stroke; the game reads the swing path and clubface for ball flight, so distance and accuracy depend on the player's own motion rather than a timing meter.[7] The early Pro Putt release was putting-only across three courses (27 holes), supplemented by four Topgolf minigames (Topgolf Classic, Top Pressure, Quick 9, and Quick 9 Pro).[1][7]

The 2021 GOLF+ update added a full-swing driving range and full 18-hole course play, with a social clubhouse that contains a practice range and acts as a gathering space for players.[2] The base game includes three courses, with additional real-world and fictional courses sold individually or unlocked through the GOLF+ PASS subscription.[5] By mid-2025 GOLF+ offered more than 35 playable courses, including recreations of Pebble Beach, the Old Course at St Andrews, Bethpage Black, Sweetens Cove, and Lofoten Links, with the studio aiming to add a new course every few weeks.[8] UploadVR's review of the original Pro Putt release praised its "convincing physics" and the way optional aids (green-reading, swing-direction guidance, and a planning view) stayed skill-based rather than automating shots, while criticizing the limited launch content.[7]

Multiplayer is a central part of the game. Players can share a round and a virtual clubhouse, and GOLF+ supports cross-platform play across its versions.[2][5] A competitive ladder, the GOLF+ Tour, had more than 25,000 ranked players as of mid-2025.[8]

Development

Golf Scope Inc. was founded by Ryan Engle, who built an early green-reading product called Pro Putt before moving the concept into VR.[8] In May 2020 the studio partnered with Topgolf Media to release Pro Putt by Topgolf on the Oculus Quest for US $19.99.[1] Engle, described in the launch announcement as Golf Scope's founder and CEO, said the game was meant to "help more people find the fun in golf," while Topgolf Media president YuChiang Cheng framed the partnership as a way to "virtually connect people."[1]

On November 18, 2021 the studio rebranded the title to GOLF+, expanding it from a putting game into full-swing golf on complete courses; the price held at US $19.99 at the time of the rebrand.[2] Full 18-hole play on Quest 2 launched alongside a fictional "Cliffs" course and a paid recreation of Wolf Creek in Nevada, with a recreation of Valhalla in Kentucky following in December 2021; the original Oculus Quest could not access the full courses.[2] The studio has continued to develop the game as a platform, adding courses, real-equipment integrations (such as third-party putting grips), and quality-of-life updates.[8] In a February 2026 roadmap, GOLF+ announced a planned Steam PC VR release for 2026 with graphical enhancements, framed as a step toward a possible PlayStation VR2 version, and a goal of a unified experience with shared physics, multiplayer, and cross-play across platforms.[5]

PGA TOUR partnership

On December 15, 2022 the PGA TOUR announced a long-term deal naming GOLF+ its official virtual reality golf game, with TOUR tournament courses to be added beginning with TPC Scottsdale and TPC Sawgrass in early 2023.[3][4] The agreement brought TOUR data and presentation into the game, including ShotLink shot data, shot trails, and video highlights from TOUR competitions.[3] Ryan Engle, identified as co-founder and CEO of GOLF+, said the deal let the studio "present unparalleled interactive tournament experiences to our players in VR."[3] Golf publications covering the partnership noted that players use a Meta Quest headset to compete on the licensed TOUR courses.[4] GOLF+ has also drawn investment and endorsements from professional golfers and athletes, including Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Tom Brady, Steph Curry, Mike Trout, and Ben Crenshaw.[4]

Reception

UploadVR reviewed the original Pro Putt by Topgolf in May 2020 and scored it 4 out of 5, writing that it "joins a growing list of VR titles that brilliantly capture the essence of a sport that inherently makes sense on the platform" and praising its balance of authenticity and accessibility; the main criticism was the small launch lineup of three courses.[7] On the Meta Quest Store, GOLF+ holds a 4.8 out of 5 rating from roughly 52,000 user reviews as of 2026.[9]

Commercially, GOLF+ has been one of the better-selling Quest titles. Meta's own published list placed it among the top sellers, and Road to VR's May 2026 analysis ranked it 15th on the all-time best-selling Quest games list, a ranking Road to VR notes reflects initial unit sales and excludes downloadable content and in-game purchases.[6] The studio reported more than 1.5 million copies sold on Meta Quest by February 2025.[5]
