Emmerholt: Prologue is a free, single-player action RPG and adventure demo for SteamVR and the Oculus Rift on Windows, played with tracked motion controllers. It is the prologue to a planned open-world game called Emmerholt. Steam lists Oneiric Entertainment LLC as developer and publisher, and the demo was released on Steam on 14 February 2017.[1] It supports the HTC Vive and Oculus Touch controllers and requires a standing or room-scale play area.[1][2]
Overview
The prologue follows Eli, a young man who lives on a small island off a mainland coast, on a night when something unusual happens on the island.[1] UploadVR's David Jagneaux reviewed it in February 2017 and put its length at about 30 minutes. In that account the player talks to characters, picks up and eats food and handles objects in the environment.[2]
Travel includes horse riding, which UploadVR described as controlled by snapping the hands up and down to make the horse go faster. Combat in the demo is limited to telekinetic powers such as lifting and throwing objects.[2] The developer stated that it released the demo to gather feedback on its locomotion, gameplay and story.[1]
The Steam page describes the planned full game as a free-roaming adventure with side quests, factions, magic and horseback travel, and gave a late 2017 target.[1] As of October 2026 the page still describes the full game as upcoming. PCGamesN, writing in August 2017, reported on Emmerholt as an Unreal Engine 4 project from a six-person Orlando studio named Cherry Pie Games, with horseback travel steered by pulling at the air to hold reins, and hand-tracked spellcasting using Leap Motion.[3]
Reception
UploadVR called the demo "a tantalizing taste of what an open world RPG adventure title in VR could be like", while criticizing the combat as underdeveloped, the animations as stiff and the voice acting as spotty.[2] Steam user reviews were rated Mostly Positive as of October 2026, with 81 of 103 reviews positive.[1]
