Dreadhalls is a first-person horror dungeon-escape game for virtual reality, developed and published by White Door Games.[1] It began as an entry in the 2013 Oculus + Indiecade VR Jam, reached Samsung Gear VR in 2015 and the Oculus Rift in 2016, and was released on Steam for SteamVR headsets such as the HTC Vive on March 9, 2017.[2] A Quest version followed on October 3, 2019, at $9.99.[3]
Overview
The player is trapped in a large dungeon and has to find a way out while avoiding creatures. The store listing describes stealth and a faint light as the player's only tools, and says the player must find oil to keep the light fed.[1] The maps are procedurally generated, so each playthrough uses a different layout.[2]
The Steam release supports hand-tracked motion controllers, keyboard and mouse, and gamepad. On the Vive, movement is directed by the orientation of the left controller.[2] The Oculus Touch version, updated in January 2017, lets the player carry a lantern in one hand, pull objects closer by pointing with the other, and open an in-game map with the right hand.[4] The Steam listing is tagged as VR only and states support for English, French, German, Spanish and Korean.[1]
