Directionless is a short experimental horror game for virtual reality, developed and published by Zach Tsiakalis-Brown. It was released on Steam for Windows on May 31, 2016 and requires an HTC Vive headset with SteamVR.[1] Its Steam page lists it as a single-player, VR-only game with tracked controller support and standing or room-scale play.[1]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked developer, publisher, release date, platform, VR requirements, features and review summary against the Steam store page, appdetails and reviews API About review dates.

Overview

The developer describes Directionless as an experiment in using VR to unsettle and disorient the player. The game starts in an ordinary room, and the environment changes after the player falls asleep and wakes at midnight.[1] The Steam page includes a warning that the game can cause motion sickness and states that it contains no jump scares.[1]

The Steam listing calls it a short experience and suggests that its replay value comes from showing it to other people.[1]

Reception

Steam user reviews were rated "Mostly Positive" as of October 2026, based on 67 reviews (53 positive, 14 negative).[2]
