Cosmo Vision is an augmented reality head-mounted display released in 2022. It is a pair of connected glasses with photochromic lenses made by the French company Cosmo Connected for cycling and other urban micro-mobility, and it shows navigation and ride data on the right lens.[1] The display is an ActiveLook module from the Grenoble company Microoled, built around a monochrome OLEDoS microdisplay with a resolution of 304 x 256 pixels.[2]
Pre-orders opened on 18 October 2021 at €489, and the glasses went on sale across the Alain Afflelou optician network in January 2022.[2][3] Cosmo Connected was placed in judicial liquidation by the Paris economic activities court on 11 June 2026.[4][5]
Announcement and release
Microoled announced its partnership with Cosmo Connected in a press release dated 19 October 2021, describing the company as a French developer of connected safety products for urban micro-mobility. The release said the Cosmo Vision would be available for pre-order at €489 from 18 October on the Cosmo Connected website and would be previewed in the Alain Afflelou retail network from early December.[2] ActiveLook founder Eric Marcellin-Dibon said in the release: "Mass adoption of AR relies on discrete integration."[2] In November 2021 the Cosmo Connected product page listed the glasses at €489 with delivery in early December, under the product reference COSMO-VISION-V01-EN-FR, and offered a free Cosmo Ride light with every pre-order.[6] English-language coverage converted the price to about US$555 to US$560.[1][7]
On 26 January 2022 Alain Afflelou announced an exclusive partnership with Cosmo Connected and said the Cosmo Vision was being sold as an early exclusive ("en avant-première") across its whole store network, at a recommended retail price of €489 including tax. The press release named Romain Afflelou as president and co-founder of Cosmo Connected.[3] The optical trade magazine L'OL MAG reported the same launch and described the glasses as waterproof, adjustable, 40 grams, with photochromic lenses and a light sensor, configured through an app for the App Store and Google Play.[8]
The price on Cosmo Connected's own store later fell. In November 2022 the product page showed a regular price of €389 and a sale price of €272,[9] and in May 2025 it listed the glasses at €349 and marked them as sold out.[10]
Design and hardware
The Cosmo Vision is a monocular head-up display: information appears only on the right lens. Cosmo Connected described the display as ActiveLook "See-Through" technology with straight lens projection, placing the data on the right lens "without affecting your field of vision".[6] The manufacturer's FAQ explained that a micro-projector shows the information transparently on the right lens, in the upper part of the field of view, and that ActiveLook is a see-through display technology from Microoled combining electronics, firmware, optics, a lens and an OLED microdisplay.[9]
Microoled states that the core of the ActiveLook module is a monochrome OLEDoS microdisplay with 304 x 256 pixels that consumes less than 1 milliwatt, and that the module weighs 6 g, runs for more than 12 hours and connects over Bluetooth Low Energy.[2] Microoled's developer documentation for ActiveLook describes a memory-based microdisplay with 16 grey levels, an optical system that projects the image into the wearer's field of view, and lists a capacitive sensor, a gesture sensor and an ambient light sensor among the typical components of ActiveLook glasses.[11]
The frame is a Base 8 design with vented lenses to reduce fogging and adjustable nose pads and temples. The lenses are NXT photochromic lenses (category 1-3) with a yellow coating on the inside and a blue MLV coating on the outside, and a brightness sensor adjusts the display for ambient light. A gesture sensor above the left lens lets the wearer scroll between screens with a hand movement, and the glasses are switched on with a capacitive button.[6] The micro-USB charging port sits at the nose bridge.[9]

The retail box contained the glasses, a case, a soft pouch, a cord, a cloth, a cleaning kit, a micro-USB cable and a user guide.[6]
Software and features
The glasses depend on the Cosmo Connected smartphone app: they connect to it over Bluetooth, and the app sends them the data to be displayed.[9] According to the manufacturer, the app was used to pair, configure and update the glasses, choose which screens and data to show, start the display when a journey begins, track statistics and share rides with up to three contacts.[6] Its GPS navigation was described as a free service for two years, after which additional charges would apply.[6]
Cosmo Connected listed the data the glasses could show as left and right navigation instructions, distance travelled or remaining, elapsed or remaining time, current or average speed, and the status of the company's Cosmo Ride lights (turn signals, hazard lights and position light).[9] In Cleanrider's test, each screen held two pieces of information, the options also included altitude and cumulative elevation gain or loss, and the app could plan routes for walking, scooter, bicycle or motorcycle travel. Navigation prompts appeared as an arrow with the distance to the next turn.[12] RideApart reported that, when used with the app, a Cosmo Ride taillight would signal automatically as the rider approached a turn set by the navigation app.[1]
Reception
Cleanrider's David Nogueira was critical in a December 2022 review. The review found the 40 g glasses light enough to wear on an electric scooter and a bicycle, but they did not fit inside the reviewer's full-face motorcycle helmet, could not be worn with prescription glasses, and offered no way to adjust the focus of the small text. It described the finish as looking like a prototype for a product costing about 400 euros. Nogueira also wrote that the "augmented reality" label could mislead buyers, because the data appears as a small text panel in the upper left of the right lens rather than overlaid on the road. Other complaints were the lack of voice guidance, a limited points-of-interest database, no multi-stop routes or GPX import, and unreliable standby behavior that forced the reviewer to re-pair the glasses with the phone after rides.[12]
The French design and technology blog diisign reviewed the glasses in October 2022. It found the yellow display readable in both low light and full sun and said the battery lasted close to the claimed 12 hours, but it found the hand-swipe control unreliable and noted that navigation worked only through the Cosmo app, not through apps such as Google Maps. It called the glasses an expensive gadget in their current form.[13]
Availability and company liquidation
By May 2025 the Cosmo Vision was shown as sold out on the Cosmo Connected store.[10] According to its notice in the French official bulletin of civil and commercial announcements (BODACC), the Paris economic activities court opened judicial liquidation proceedings against Cosmo Connected on 11 June 2026, setting the date of cessation of payments at 11 December 2024.[5] Transition Vélo reported in September 2026 that, after the liquidation, account-linked services in the Cosmo Connected app no longer responded and new equipment could no longer be paired. That report was about the company's helmets and lights and did not mention the Cosmo Vision, which also relied on the same app for pairing and navigation.[4][6]
