The Cinera Edge is a personal-cinema head-mounted display from Cinera, with built-in Android playback and integrated headphones. It is designed for private entertainment without a separate computer.[2]
Edge Pro adds HDMI input and Dolby Digital decoding.[1]
History and development
Cinera dates its founding to 2016 and its first cinema-headset crowdfunding to 2017. Edge pre-orders moved to Indiegogo InDemand in August 2020.[2]
The Edge Kickstarter campaign ran from 30 June to 14 August 2020. Its final total was US$1,390,783 from 2,364 backers.[3]
In April 2021, contemporary reporting listed an Edge Pro early-bird pledge of US$599 against an advertised US$999 MSRP and described July 2021 shipment as a revised plan. This was a proposed delivery schedule.[5]
A Japanese crowdfunding announcement followed on 21 January 2022, with May delivery then planned.[7]
On 18 October 2022, the Cinera team apologized for delays and reported that a small batch had already shipped. It still planned to dispatch remaining orders that month and described logistics and customer-service handover problems. The update does not establish that every backer received a device.[4]
Design and fit
Cinera says the headphone-style design shifts weight toward the sides to reduce pressure at the front.[2]
The 2020 FAQ describes extendable sides like headphones and explicitly says ordinary glasses do not fit inside the device. It proposed magnetic supplementary lenses.[8]
Display technology
Cinera markets its two Micro-OLED displays together as "5K"; this is a combined label.[7]
The Japanese campaign claimed seven times the iPhone 11 Pro's panel density and 38 PPD. It described Edge as the only HMD combining a wide field of view with cinema-standard PPD, as of December 2021. These were manufacturer comparisons, rather than independent clarity tests.[6]
Advertised contrast is 500,000:1, with response below one microsecond. These are panel claims, rather than measured display persistence.[7]
Field of view
The FAQ describes a virtual 1,200-inch screen viewed from 20 m and a 66° horizontal field of view. Its refresh-rate answer specifies up to 60 Hz.[8]
Cinera compared its 66° width with a 54° conventional cinema view and a 70° IMAX view. These are its viewing-angle comparisons, not certification by a cinema operator.[2]
Audio system
Cinera's 2020 release advertised Dolby Digital certification and four speaker drivers per side, eight total, for its 5.1-channel headphone arrangement.[2]
The 2020 FAQ says the headphones do not provide active noise cancellation.[8]
A 2021 specification report listed dual microphones with noise cancellation.[5]
Processing and storage
The Japanese campaign offered 4 GB RAM and 32 GB storage for Edge or 128 GB for Pro, replacing earlier 2/4 GB RAM and 16/32 GB storage configurations. It advertised local playback from USB drives and microSD cards.[6]
In March 2022, Cinera said all models had been upgraded to a hexa-core processor. The same update described an optional regional-memory upgrade for earlier backers.[9]
Connectivity
USB-C supports charging and OTG accessories, including wireless keyboards/mice.[1]
Cinera advertised Wi-Fi streaming apps including Netflix and HBO, plus HDMI sources such as Blu-ray players, consoles, PCs and drones. These were campaign-era compatibility claims.[8]
The Japanese campaign also claimed HDR compatibility in a March 2022 creator reply. Its subscription offer used accounts managed by One Channel Limited; it does not establish present access to the named services.[6]
Controls
The right-side touchpad supports swipe navigation through menus.[7]
TP/MENU selects locked, mouse or volume/brightness modes; inactivity locks the touchpad after one minute.[1]
Sensors and viewing modes
Cinera advertised gyroscope-based VR and 360° movie use. This supports a bounded head-rotation claim; the FAQ does not document a positional-tracking system or a room-scale software platform.[8]
Battery
The campaign originally advertised 6,000 mAh. In March 2022, Cinera said a supplier change reduced capacity to 5,900 mAh; it claimed better battery quality and longevity. That was a supplier claim, rather than a measured battery-life result.[9]
The January 2022 Japanese brochure listed 5,200 mAh alongside a quad-core processor and Bluetooth 4.1.[7]
Viewing uses
Cinera promoted the viewer for movies at home, portable entertainment and displaying external console or PC output. Playing a game on that virtual screen is a different use from position-tracked VR.[2]
Comparison with cinema headsets
The figures below retain the historical models and quoted periods. Manufacturer specifications and campaign prices are not a common laboratory comparison. A blank dash means no comparable verified figure is supplied here.

The integrated system presents separate left- and right-eye images for 3D viewing without cinema-style filtering glasses.[6]
Cinera advertised approximately three hours of viewing and 490 g weight.[7]
