Battle Dome is a team-based science-fiction first-person shooter for SteamVR headsets, developed by Bad Bird Studios. It was released on Steam for Windows on 8 June 2017, and the store listing marks it as VR only, with tracked controller support and standing or room-scale play.[1] The Steam page also offers a separate mouse and keyboard demo.[1]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked developer, release date, VR-only and tracked-controller listing, mode and map counts, review summary against the Steam page and API, and the 2017 Nora Codes review claims. About review dates.

Overview

Battle Dome is played in 5 v 5 matches in which teams try to destroy the opposing team's base core. According to the store listing, it includes 23 weapons and 15 maps, and some maps add special rules such as anti-gravity, jet packs or bot opponents. PvP modes are Destroy the Core, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, King of the Kill and You Only Live Once, which gives each player one life per round. There are also three co-op modes, one of them a horror mode, along with built-in team and all-player voice chat, stat tracking and leaderboards.[1]

On color maps, players can only teleport onto tiles painted in their own team's color, so spreading that color is part of reaching the enemy base. Other maps support trackpad-based free movement.[1] A 2017 review by Leonora Tindall, played with a HTC Vive, describes a lobby area for trying weapons before a match and notes that weapons can be held one-handed, with some offering an optional two-handed mode.[2]

Reception

Tindall's review praised the weapon variety and the choice between teleporting and free movement, criticized low-resolution character models and a fixed teleport cooldown regardless of distance, and gave the game 8/10.[2] Steam user reviews were rated Very Positive as of October 2026, with 396 of 446 reviews positive.[3]
