Audio Factory is a free VR App developed and published by Google to demonstrate the company's Resonance Audio spatial audio SDK. It is a port of a Daydream experience and runs on Windows PCs through SteamVR with HTC Vive and Oculus Rift headsets and their tracked controllers. It was released on Steam on 5 November 2017.[1] Google's announcement of the Resonance Audio SDK, published the next day, pointed readers to the app for both Daydream and SteamVR.[2]

Reviewed 9 October 2026. Checked title, developer, publisher, release date, price, Daydream port, controllers, wired headphones requirement and review rating against the Steam page and Google's Resonance Audio announcement About review dates.

Overview

The app is a short tour through the floors of a factory, where the player completes interactive tasks while the sound design shows how spatial audio places sources around the listener. According to its Steam listing, it exists to show how spatial audio contributes to immersion in VR.[1]

As a Daydream port, it shows a virtual Daydream controller in the scene and maps its controls to the Vive controllers or Oculus Touch controllers.[1] The listing requires wired headphones, since Bluetooth headphones are not supported because of their added latency.[1] The Resonance Audio SDK is Google's spatial audio toolkit for mobile and desktop platforms, and the store page links to the SDK's developer site for developers who want to add spatial audio to their own projects.[2][1]

Reception

Steam user reviews were rated Very Positive (81% of 77 reviews) as of October 2026.[1]
