TCL RayNeo X2 Lite is an augmented reality head-mounted display that has been announced but not yet released. It is a pair of standalone binocular AR glasses developed by RayNeo, an AR company incubated by TCL Electronics.[1] The glasses weigh about 60 grams and project full-color images from MicroLED displays through optical waveguides onto both lenses, with a 30° field of view and a claimed peak brightness of up to 1,500 nits to the eye.[1][2]
RayNeo announced the X2 Lite at Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit 2023 in October 2023 and described it as the first full-color 3D display smart glasses powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 platform.[1] It showed the glasses publicly for the first time at CES 2024 and said they would be released in the third quarter of 2024; no price was announced.[2][3] As of September 2026, the X2 Lite is not listed among the products in RayNeo's global online store.[4]
History
RayNeo introduced the X2 Lite at Snapdragon Summit 2023 in Maui, Hawaii. The announcement included statements from RayNeo founder and CEO Howie Li and from Said Bakadir, Senior Director of XR Product Management at Qualcomm. At that time RayNeo gave an expected release in the third quarter of 2024.[1][5] Chinese technology site IT Home reported the same launch window and noted that the price had not been announced.[6]
At CES 2024 in Las Vegas, RayNeo demonstrated the X2 Lite to the public for the first time. In the same announcement it said it would crowdfund the larger TCL RayNeo X2 on Indiegogo from February 2024.[2] TCL's own CES 2024 press materials presented the X2 Lite as building on the full-color binocular waveguide displays of the previous generation while adding the Snapdragon AR1 platform, in a lighter design meant to be worn for longer.[7][8]
Tom's Guide, writing in February 2024, reported that RayNeo positioned the X2 as a first-generation model for developers and early adopters, while the X2 Lite was intended to be more consumer-friendly and to offer more basic features. The outlet repeated the Q3 2024 target and said pricing had not been confirmed.[9]
RayNeo's later RayNeo X3 Pro, launched at an event in Shenzhen on 27 May 2025, also uses the first-generation Snapdragon AR1 platform and weighs 76 grams.[10] RayNeo's global store lists the X3 Pro and the original X2, but not the X2 Lite.[4]
Design and hardware
Display and optics
The X2 Lite has binocular full-color MicroLED displays, with a compact projector on each side of the frame.[2] The images are carried to the lenses by a diffractive optical waveguide.[1][6] RayNeo gives a 30° field of view and a to-eye brightness of up to 1,500 nits, which it says lets the glasses adapt to different lighting conditions.[2] TCL Mobile's CES 2024 specification list gives a resolution of 640 x 480.[11][12] TechRadar described the 30° diagonal image as a window that is wide but not very tall.[13]
Processing and software
The glasses are standalone and run on the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 platform.[1] According to the CES 2024 specification list, they have 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage and run RayNeo OS, which is based on Android 12.[11][12] Tom's Guide reported that RayNeo's X2 models are not designed as a second screen for a phone; a phone connection is used to share an internet connection and cellular service, so calls can be made through the glasses.[9]
Camera, audio and sensors
The X2 Lite has a 12-megapixel camera for hands-free first-person photos and video, three microphones for voice commands and calls, and speakers with a "Whisper Mode" that RayNeo says directs sound only to the wearer.[2] The published specification list adds 1080p video at 30 fps, two speakers, Wi-Fi 6/E, Bluetooth 5.3, USB 2.0, an accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, magnetometer and touch sensors, and IP52 water and dust protection.[11][12]
Controls and fit
The glasses are controlled with a touchpad on the right-hand side of the frame or with a small ring that has its own touchpad.[9] The control ring is sold separately. The specification list also mentions prescription lens support and an adjustable air-cushion nose pad.[11] Tom's Guide reported a weight of 60 grams for the X2 Lite, half the 120 grams of the X2.[9]
Features
RayNeo lists real-time translation, live captions, 3D map navigation, an AI assistant and first-person photo and video capture as the main functions.[2][1] The CES 2024 announcement described the assistant as an AI-powered 3D avatar.[2] Dexerto also listed notifications for calls, messages and calendar events.[12]
Reception
The X2 Lite was assessed only in pre-release demonstrations.
Tom Pritchard of Tom's Guide found that the X2 Lite did not press on his ears the way the larger X2 did, although it was still slightly bigger than an ordinary pair of glasses. He reported that real-time translation on RayNeo's glasses was not yet integrated with AI and worked more like a conventional translation app.[9]
Philip Berne of TechRadar wrote that the X2 Lite had the best AR display he had tried so far but that its 30° field of view gave "a postage stamp view" of AR content. He was strongly critical of an AI chatbot character shown in the demo, whose figure did not fit inside the display, and concluded that the glasses were "not ready for prime time".[13]
