MSI Electric City: Core Assault is a free VR App for Windows, a third-person arcade "bullet hell" shoot 'em up for the HTC Vive through SteamVR. It was developed by HyperBot Studio, published by MSI, and released on Steam on 8 September 2017.[1] It is the sequel to the 2016 VR title MSI Electric City and adds combat to the earlier game.[2]

Overview

The player flies a fighter spacecraft in a city attacked by hostile enemies, with the aim of protecting the city's central core and nearby defensive towers. Gameplay is a bullet hell shoot 'em up in which the player steers the ship and shoots groups of enemies.[1] The Steam listing names two modes of play, three enemy types, four ship power-ups, a local high score leaderboard and an original music soundtrack, and says the game was built with Unreal Engine 4.[1]

The game requires an HTC Vive and tracked motion controllers, and supports standing or room-scale play.[1] Chinese-language coverage from September 2017 reported that MSI made the game to show off its X299 GAMING M7 ACK motherboard, and that the main addition over the first game was combat with 360-degree tracking on the Vive.[2]

Reception

Steam user reviews were rated "Very Positive" as of October 2026, based on 91 reviews.[3]
